Offical Vince Young thread

I didn't say you said they would suck forever. I just said you would hate it when they don't. Its pretty clear that you will.

Wrong. I really don't care one way or the other. I just find it extremely humorous that so many of you guys can look at this team and think they have a prayer of competing for a playoff spot in the NFL next season.

Yes. However, given the other players that were available when the Titans made their picks, I think I would have gone in another direction most of the time. When a high priority for you is running back, for example, I wouldn't draft a guy that had 800 career yards in college.

...and was a career backup running back until his last seven games of his college career on a terrible University of Arizona team. Oh yeah, he also averaged 3.5 yards per carry in both of his last two seasons in college (against pitiful PAC-10 defenses nonetheless). I know that's always what most teams are looking for in a second round draft pick. :eek:lol:

I never said they had a chance this season or next season. I have to be realistic and this team's not even close to competing at a high level yet.

Actually, Leinart showed more promise as a passer than Young, but the press gave Young all of the credit for every Titans victory despite the fact that the majority of the load was actually shouldered by Travis Henry.

Henry played great, but the 4th quarter belonged to Vince in almost every one of their wins. I feel like Henry carried most of the load to keep it close, but Vince carried the load to get them over the hump to get the win.

And I'm not willing to write off Young as a passer like some of you are. Yes, he had some major struggles in the passing game, but those are expected from any rookie. I strongly disagree that it is a given that Cutler and Leinart were and will be better QBs too. Look at the stats, Leinart wasn't really better passing wise. The difference is negligible. Cutler was a better passer, but IMO not a better QB. Factor in the rushing yards and TDs when you are comparing them as QBs. Also look at the gigantic talent difference between the Broncos and Cardinals compared to the Titans. That in itself kind of makes it impossible to make an accurate assumption on who is better. IMO, Vince can be the best qb out of the three, but only if the titans ever improve the rest of their offensive personnel.

Most would disagree with you. Only time will tell, but we picked up some good players. Have faith in our FO, lets see how the season plays out.

Nah, most would agree that the Titans draft was pretty bad. To me, it was one of the worst drafts I have ever seen. (considering how many picks they had and how little they did with them)

You've dodged this question before, and I understand why, but I'll ask again. Why didn't Travis Henry shoulder any of the load in 2005 as the Titans won only 4 games?

I think he just didn't have the drive that he used to. It was like he didn't want to be there. Comparing 2005 and the first couple of games of 06 with the rest of the 06 season, you can tell a difference in how hard he ran and how determined he was to make something happen.

And now I'll stop interrupting the little argument going on around my posts. :p

That is a ridiculous statement. Leinart threw for 56% 2547 yards 11 TD's to 12 INT's. Young was 51% 2200 yards 12 TD's to 13 INT's. Leinarts numbers overall were SLIGHTLY better, but he also had one of the best WR tandems in the NFL cathcing balls, while Young had Drew B. and Bobby frickin Wade. I won't even bring the running ability into this but the notion that Leinart was a superior passer is just plain wrong. Can you honestly say that if your team was down by in the 4th with 2 minutes to play you would rather put the ball in Leinart's hands over Young? If so you obviously have not watched Vince Young with the game on the line. The guy just has a knack for making game winning plays. Leinart might beat him in a throwing skills competition, but if you need confirmation about who the best FOOTBALL PLAYER is just watch the 05 Rose bowl again.

I wouldn't quite say awful, but certainly not good as far as a qb goes. Not a guy I'd want to depend on as a passer.
Why does everyone act like the guy can't throw a football? He was nearly as efficient as Leinart (and actually thew 1 more TD with a terrible WR core), but you would think ML was leaps and bounds better throwing the ball when you read half of these posts.

VY played 1 series against the Jets in week one, played most of the second half against San Diego in a blowout in week two, and didn't play at all in week three.

Even still, superior QB Matt Leinart threw 20 more passes and still had fewer TD passes than Young.

Wrong, kpt. He threw for over 200 yards in 4 seperate games last year.

As if I care. I made it pretty clear I wasn't certain. I also didn't feel like wasting my time looking up his stats. I saw him play and I know what he can do at this point. The fact that it took over a week for anyone to even doubt that assertion is proof enough of his passing skills.

Oh, so evaluating his first year in league let you know "what he can do" as a player? I'd wait a few more years before saying that. Many people said the same thing about Elway, Aikman, and Manning after their rookie seasons.

Had you read the last three words of the sentence you quoted, you wouldn't have bothered typing any of this.

But that's grossly inaccurate. He's improved immensely this offseason. From what I have seen this spring, his release is a little higher while his throws seem to be coming out just as quickly. He connected on tough throws and routes consistently during the duration of practice that week. I couldn't believe how much he improved over the last few months. Trust me, you haven't come close to seeing what he can do at this point.

Yeah, I really trust you. Thanks for the scouting report. Maybe you can get me tickets to a Titans practice sometime.
