Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Thread

They stupidly went into a shell when they scored. They could have continued to pour it on and grab another to put it away, but they went defensive. The Dutch finally opened their attack up, and dominated the latter part of the second half. Mexicans should blame themselves.

Mexicans were still trying but they were obviously hesitant to push. The Dutch were getting really good looks when they went down the right side. That's where they earned the corner and penalty from. Great game to watch.

I never tire of watch Mexico lose. What's funny is that after Sneijder pulled level, I told my brother, "The perfect ending to this game would be Marquez losing it, and getting a red for taking down a Dutch player in the box for a PK."

Thirty seconds later, same scenario with a yellow instead.

Was it a good call in Mexico game? I was in a sportsbook and couldn't tell .

Did help me break even for the weekend fortunately.

Costa Rica is the biggest bunch of pansy ass whiny *****es in the tourney...at one point after going a man down, there were THREE, 3, TRES players down at THE SAME time trying to get a card on the Greeks. Every foul that was committed, they were begging for a card...I will now pull for The Dutch to humiliate them...*******.

Hard to blame them. It seemed like Greece was getting all the calls and they needed to buy some time to get a rest. At one point the Greeks had 3 guys offside when they played the ball in and no call.

Also, the Mexico Coach said that Robben flopped 3 times...lol...NO, he did ONCE and the second one was a PENALTY that was missed and it was so bad that the defender actually broke his leg on the foul. The 3rd was a foul and some embellishment, but a foul none the less.

You most certainly can blame them for flopping like fish to get a red card on Greece. That is way beyond the sportsmanship of the game. A flop in the box is bad, but to flop just to get a player carded to even the sides is *****fied. Seriously, you cannot justify 3 players down at the same time writhing in exaggerated pain to get a foul called and a card on Greece. IT WAS NOT FOR REST.

I don't think the flopping was nearly as bad as you're making it out to be.

I DVR'd it and stopped it and showed my wife...2 were down right beside each other at midfield and the third was right in front of them on their half of the field...when the tackle was made on the 3rd guy, CR defensive players came rushing up the field to the ref and started doing the hand gesture of giving a card...they were on a dead sprint to him. Almost, everytime a foul was committed, they were begging for a card.

This is the problem with soccer. Seems like soccer players can never move on. They always have to whine and complain in the game and after it. If the other team does anything at all, they act so offended, then the next minute they will up the ante and take it to the next level. Greece got some calls and Costa Rica reacted by players falling all over the pitch.

I don't watch enough soccer other than the EPL, so is this just players desperate given the stakes? I know soccer is always annoying with flops and whining, but this has been ridiculous. Even Robben (who is a flopper) dove once or twice before he earned the legit foul.

On another note: Mexico's manager was childish. I understand his points about the referee's country being against Mexico, but at the end of the day his team choked and lost. Absolutely no class from him ranting on the refs like that. At least Mexico is a consistent team in the WC. Not many teams have the skill to lose 6 times in a row in the round of 16.

In defense of Robben: he was fouled hard at the end of the first half by two defenders and wasn't given the foul. He gradually had to play up his fouls until he finally had one called for him, which was very legit. He even played through a couple of fouls that could have been called.
