Official 2016 Summer Baseball Thread

You and 31 have done as much as I have this year, no doubt...and I'm off to West Tennessee tomorrow, already looking forward to checking this space when I get back on Sunday.

Just something I've been thinking about...we have a good class of arms, the best class of arms we've had since CDS has been here imo, plus KS, Warren, Westphal, Martin, Neely and Soto...

It took Pat Casey a decade to make a regional and we have a lot in common with a school like that in terms of baseball.

I'm, as always...optimistic.

Just thankful we have this place to talk about baseball. Thanks Freak!

GBO!!!

Coastal beats Tech!

Be sure to get some good BBQ while in the flat part of the state.

I am excited to see what the pitching staff brings next season, the bats - I am a little worried. Having Serrano & Westphal back is kinda like having free agent signings.

Vasquez line from last night...
2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 3 SO

Waldren ends up 1-4 with an RBI, walk and a strikeout.

Leno was 1-4 and is batting .167.

A few questions and comments from this summer so far.

1. Daniel Neal does anyone know if he is hurt or just not playing.

2. Westphal, love seeing what he is doing so far. Very exciting imagining him has a closer next year and finishing off wins.

3. Rodgers, love seeing what he is doing so far. If he can keep this up all summer hopefully he can be that guy in the middle of the order next year.

4. Martin, great first two starts in the cape. Would love to see him get some confidence heading into next season. Good be a quality arm next season.

5. Soto and Neely, I think they will have up and down summers. Neither is overpowering but compete and you have to love that. Would love to see Neely build on the end of last season. I could be completely wrong on this but if a freshman arm or Serrano comes back healthy, I wouldn't be surprised to see Soto move into that cox roll. Could be a swing man and come in early when someone is having an off night. Or come in tough situations and get the game to westphal.

6. Santiago, tough summer so far but still early. Would like to see him cut down on the strike outs. Needs to settle in and finish well. Need him to be in the middle of the line up everyday next year.

7. Leftridge, good to see he isn't striking out much and he is stealing more bases. Need him to get on base more because he needs to be the lead off man next year.

8. Harris, I'm gonna hate it if he isn't on the team next year. Numbers are pretty solid in Alaska so far this summer and his walk to strike out rate is almost 1:1.

I just noticed Neal is now playing for the Forest City Owls. He appeared in his first game last night and went 1-5 with a home run.

Dang Rodgers keeps doing that well we might have to start worrying about him signing this summer

Just the more reason for me to bring up & say again I can't believe he wasn't drafted. You & others can use this 1B position crap all you want.

He's going to be a 2B most likely anyhow in the pros. He deserved to be drafted. Not a high draft pick but in my opinion in somewhere around rounds 15-20.

Extremely fine line between being a draft and signing for 40k and school and not being drafted at all

Not much to report tonight.

No action in the Cape today.
Brodie pinch hits for Valley in the 8th and gets a single in his only at bat.
Anchorage is playing a non-league game and is in the 2nd and just scored I believe. Live stats are down and they seem to be using 66's smoke signal idea for the play by play. They just said they are using softball bats so this sounds like a sandlot game.
Vasquez pitched .2 innings of zeroes.
Ventura and SLO both have the night off.

USA Baseball gets underway today. Team USA plays two intra squad games starting at 4:30 PM ET. They play the Santa Barbara Foresters at 8 PM.

USABaseballCNT: Four singles help the @SBForesters cut into the #TeamUSA lead. Now an 8-3 game heading into the home half of the fifth.

Not a good 2nd inning inning of work for Warren.

Rodgers will hit 4th and play RF for Hyannis tonight. Benito is hitting 9th and playing CF.
