Official Brexit Referendum Discussion

The people voted. The government ignored
The government didn't ignore. The government got put in its place by the EU.

This about sums it up:

Political structure of the EU is a crap shoot. The UK had the third largest economy in the world. The gap closes tremendously if they free themselves of the EU parasite.

So your argument is based upon you saying so.

I take it that you oppose sovereignty?
No. I wouldn't even be bothered if they left. But the idea that they are just some globalists that don't care about the will of the people is a total fantasy. It's why leavers don't want another referendum. They know there is no chance of it passing again after witnessing the aftermath.

It would be close, either way. I'd be surprised if the winning side had much more than the 52% of the previous vote.

If you add up the support for each of the different leave options, I could see leave winning out. But just about every possible leave scenario seems to divide the leave camp to the point where I think remain would win a second referendum.

With this defeat, I’d say the only way Brexit happens is if they come up with a softer brexit that labor may be on board with. They are clearly not getting all the conservative MP’s on board for any one deal. And I definitely think they’ll do what it takes for a longer extension before just exiting without a deal.

Labour is almost as conflicted as the Conservatives are.

Basically all outcomes (hard Brexit to no Brexit) are still possible.

Really? It seems they would jump at the chance to revoke article 50 or get a second referendum.

Overall it's more pro-remain, but there are some Labour districts that voted solidly to leave. That's probably a reason Corbyn flirts with the second referendum, but has never pushed hard for it.

And what if what was promised prior to the referendum doesn’t match the reality?

Then it never should have been put to a vote. While I think England leaving the EU will be good for them in the long run you don’t put that up for popular vote. If they don’t leave the government has absolutely zero credibility.

It definitely shouldn’t have been put to a vote. It was idiotic to put something like this to a referendum. The people obviously were not going to be able to understand or predict all the consequences.

Again I think the people made the right decision and the parliament needs to honor that but this is an example of why pure democracy is untenable and dangerous.

Does anyone actually have a direct (I assume that’s what you mean) democracy?

For the love of God just hold another referendum.

I think the way to ultimately get beyond this is to put whatever Brexit compromise the government eventually comes up with versus remain and have the public vote for one or the other.

The reason there's so much division now is because in the first referendum people did not vote on a specific plan.

Not that I know of.

I wouldn’t even call England a democracy which is why I can’t understand why this was put to a popular vote.

I think Cameron promised a referendum to help win support in his re-election campaign. I don’t think he thought it would pass, which is why he immediately resigned (someone correct me if this is wrong).

There are a lot of politicians who don’t understand that people are getting tired of the establishment and underestimate the resentment.

And it would have the same result. People have had their fill of the globalist practice....where population replacement with non-Europeans is the main sore spot...losing their culture, identity, jobs and standard of living. Brits are smart enough to know what they voted for, and that was to leave the EU. It’s past time for politicians to honor the choice of the people.
