I definitely agree Labour probably should not want a general election now. But it also seems like the most fair and effective way to resolve things if they aren’t going to have a second brexit referendum.

Honestly, if they're serious about stopping a hard Brexit, they're going to have to work with Labour so they don't split each other's vote in the election.
