OFFICIAL Chi Cubs Thread: Anyone can have a bad century/this is the year

You have to wonder if the "blister" may be just an excuse to rest that arm for 4 extra days. I doubt Cubs management wants to see him throwing any innings in an All Star Game.

Through his first 4 innings, his pitch count was in the mid 50s I believe. His last inning and a third was what made his line look not as good as it could have been.

Romero, a AAA player at the beginning of the year, just dominated Harden. Cubs down 1-0

well even Cy Young and Bob Gibson gave up HRs, it happens. He still pitched a hell of a game. Btw why do you hate Harden?

i don't hate Harden. I just think you are more ridiculous than VolMania21 and his Jessica Alba fantasy world with your mancrush on someone who rarely ever pitches that deep into a game and spends most of his time on the DL. He's nowhere near the dominant pitcher you love to profess.

I don't have a man crush on him, i just think when he's healthy he's one of the most dominant pitchers in the majors. Why does it matter to you what i think anyways? The whole argument is irrelevant because nobody knows who the most dominant pitcher is, it's all opinions.

With all the high-profile pitchers that Beane has either traded or let walk away, has he been burned yet?

due to the staff he had the time and how incredibly well the Mulder trade worked out, the Hudson trade doesn't stand out as bad as it should for the A's. Aaron Harang for Jose Guillen was a horrific trade as well.

it may all be opinions, but conventional stats don't back you up. You just cling to his strikeout ratio.

Harang was a bum when he was traded away though. No one knew what Harang would turn into. I still remember people calling into the Reds Pregame dropping F bombs every which way for trading Jose Guillenf for a pitcher with no talent.

i'm going to disagree with that. While Harang wasn't the pitcher he was the past few seasons, he wasn't a bum either. I never felt good about that trade, but then again, I don't feel very good about most Beane trades, but he's proven that he typically knows what he is doing.

Bum was a little strong but he was a #5 that was pitching in an extreme pitchers park. Shifting that #5 to the great american small park didn't project well and there were a lot of Jose Guillen fans in Cinci. A lot of Reds fans were pissed. No one could have had a clue that Harang would have turned out this good.

The interesting thing is that Hudson and Harang have basically the same value now; both consistently have ERA+s about 125 or so. (ERA normalized to league and park, then against a scale where 100 is average.)

I think the key thing that Beane knows is that pitchers fluctuate so much that signing them to long-term deals is usually a bad risk. Bring them up, get a few years out of them, and then flip them to somebody else for prospects while they still have value.

sorry about the loss (ok, not really, i hate the cubs), but it's at least nice to know the most dominant pitcher in the game lasted so long right?

What's that you say? 5 innings isn't very long? Oh, well my bad...
