Official Duke/UNC 2016-17 Thread

@franfraschilla: Remember that since adoption of "one-and-done" rule in NBA's CBA 11 years ago, only 2 NCAA champs have had 1 on their team. '12 UK, '15 Duke

@rduvol#14: Remember that Duke and UK have won 3 National titles combined since UNC's last title (2009). With Duke winning 2 since 2010. Including 13 of the last 18 vs the Tar Heels.

Congrats on the Win tonight Heels. You guys are playing well.

Don't worry, he isn't your problem anymore. You guys shouldn't have been pumping him and Bolden's debut up so much. Pretty disappointing

I'm more disappointed in Bolden than Giles. I'm not going to fault a guy who has had the issues Giles does. I can be critical of a guy who jogged back on D and looked uninspired and disengaged from the rest of his teammates like Bolden. Say what you want about Giles, but he always seemed to be a great teammate and eager to contribute. Bolden not so much.

Anybody can be a great teammate and eager to contribute tho man... There were flashes of a solid contributor, but never a projected top 5 pick like every thought knowing the injury history.

Had Giles not gotten injured right before the season things probably would have been different, but after that injury my expectations towards him shifted to pretty much what he was. The only reason he played this year was because he had to play 21 games for his insurance policy. Had the 21 insurance policy not have been there he probably wouldn't have played at all and probably shouldn't have.

And was projected top 5 even after all of that. His last injury, wasn't even as severe as you guys make it out to be. Hell, he had plenty of bounce, just didn't play well consistently enough.

It's a lot harder when you are 5 star supposed top 5 pick and cannot contribute on the floor the way you want to. Instead he bought into the program's culture and celebrated his teammates. I have a lot of respect for that.

I love this stat from ESPN...

"Since the 2003-04 season, Self's first at Kansas, he is tied with Duke's Mike Krzyzewski for the most losses to lower-seeded teams in the NCAA tournament, with 10, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Six of those losses came when the Jayhawks were a No. 1 seed."

I feel like we've had the Giles conversation about 30 times, even after acknowledging that he didn't live up to preseason expectations.

I'd still take those two over quite literally any other coach in the country.

Typically when you are a 1 seed and you lose, the team that beats you will probably be a lower seed.

I love this stat from Rdu Vol#14:

" Since 1991 Coach K and Duke have won 5 NCAA titles. That's more than Dean Smith and Roy Williams have won combined."

Yeah, if you list out the coaches with the most 1- and 2-seeds, those two guys are probably right at the top.
