Official Duke/UNC 2016-17 Thread

If Bradley comes back I'm going to be super pissed. A team with Berry, Knox and Bradley could make another title run.

Absolutely. We need Bradley to have a legitimate post threat. Maye is good on the boards, but his offense is more pick and pop. Bradley makes them a solid team next year. How good beyond that depends on Knox and/or how much the other guys improve.

Is the university allowed to pay the premium on an "injury" policy for players? And how much can those policies pay out?

If Bradley is not a sure pick in round one, I think he'd be better off to take out a $5-$10M policy that covers injury and come back for another year.

Easy for me to say, I know.

Not sure how that works, but I know Giles had to play in something like 21 games to be covered. Everything that I'm hearing is that Bradley will be a first round pick. I really hope he's gone because I'm afraid he'd make a massive Sophomore jump kind of the way Kennard did for Duke this season. If that happened, I'm going to jump off the balcony at Top of The Hill.

Seriously, who declares for the draft and then 24 hours comes back?

ummm...Berry.

it looks like he made an educated decision which is quite unlike most younger folks today...seriously, when you declared, how did it go for you?

It went as well for me as it did for you. Seriously, who the hell is this guy chiming in out of nowhere?

Probably headed to Duke.

If not Duke, then Kentucky.

K and Cal still getting by with the "We turn high school lottery picks into freshman lottery picks" coup. But, as the old adage goes: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It needs to be fixed. I would love for college basketball to adopt a rule similar to baseball. If you want to go pro out of high school then go, but if you go to school you should have to be on campus for 2 fall and 2 spring semesters. Until then it's going to remain the same. I'm not going to fault K, Cal, Self and yes even Ol Roy for doing what they are paid to do. Win.

That's overkill. If you let people leave out of high school, most of the current one-and-dones would go then. When high school entrants were allowed, this was never an issue.

Last year there were 14 OADs drafted, in 2004 there were 8 HS kids drafted. If 8/14 would have left after HS, and 6 want to leave after a year of college ball, why are we trying to stop them?

Seriously, I don't get picking UK with everything they have coming back at a similar position or picking Cal over Roy or K. That's just me though.

We have Wenyen Gabriel and Killeya-Jones. Knox has a legit chance to start if he's going against them.

True, but he's guaranteed starting at Duke and UNC. Just surprised by his choice given the rosters at this point.

Cal sold this kid on a lot of things that he's just not. Knox will play the 2/3 at UK which is what he wanted to play even those he's a 27% 3PT shooter. At Duke and UNC he was going to play the 3/4 and he just didn't want too. In an interview he said Cal compared him to the Greek Freak which is hilarious because he's just not that. Knox is a good player and will have a chance to he a OAD, but I don't think that's gonna happen. He won't be put in a position to show those talents because he's a below average 3PT shooter. If he plays the 2, that means this will be the worst shooting team Cal has ever had by a wide margin.

As a Duke fan, he would've been nice to have but he was not a necessity with Duke having Allen and Trent - Bolden coming back helps too. There's another kid, Jordan Tucker, that Duke finally offered who's the one I want. He's not highly rated, only a 4*, but he's a better fit for what Duke needs. He can shoot, will be at Duke for 3-4 years, is 6'7" and loves Duke. He's the wing I want, he'll accept coming off the bench and I don't think Knox would.

Tucker coming in on Wednesday for an official.

Idk, I would say pretty much any good player is close to a necessity at this point. We have basically zero depth. He would have been good in the Winslow/Tatum combo forward role that we love recently, but I guess he didn't want to play it

Need Duval to commit soon, and then Frank to comeback (which I'm hearing he is, unless he's lying to the coaches).

Duval
Jackson
Allen
Carter
Bolden

That's a pretty solid lineup.

My thing with Knox is that I felt like he would throw off team chemistry and we'd have a repeat of this year all over again. His dad is very involved, almost too involved, like Tank Thornton was.

Knox wanted to play the 2/3, he wanted no part of a stretch 4 and I have no idea why considering Duke's track record at that position recently. He really thinks he can play the 2 and that's not gonna work. However, out of Parker, Hood, Winslow, Ingram, and Tatum, Knox would've been the lowest of those guys. You can add Justin Jackson to that list too and he's still the lowest rated player there.

Hot take: Javin DeLaurier and Knox are almost the same player. DeLaurier is a little more athletic and better defensively, but Knox is a tad more refined offensively.

IIRC Winslow was like 11th in the 247 Composite, and Knox is 8th. Winslow played above his ranking though.

Cal has a history of taking guys that want to mess around on the perimeter and forcing them to play to their strengths inside (Randle, Towns) so I'm not sure Knox should really be expecting to be launching 3s at Kentucky either.

Ehh, Cal's recruiting pitch to Knox was that he would use him similar to Monk.

Sounds like Jackson and Bradley may be gone.
