Official Duke/UNC 2016-17 Thread

Two (Israel Gutierrez and Kathy Fagan) of the four on ESPN's Around the Horn were ok with the one game suspension. Funny thing to me is it was an indefinite suspension, yet Duke loses by double digits to Virginia Tech and the suspension is lifted after that game proving Krzyzewski is like any other coach all he cares about is winning

It had nothing to do with Virginia tech and everything about getting his full team in place before his surgery, that's why Giles started. Draymond Green kicked people in the balls repeatedly and got 1 game, so damn tired of people acting like Allen killed someone.

If anything, the VT loss showed Grayson that his act was dumb and that the loss could be blamed on him. That was probably the best game for him to have to sit out. If they had blown them out, it would've showed him they don't need him and he could potentially do more dumb things. The blowout showed him that he couldn't do those things because they need him to win - he can be suspended anymore.

Harry Giles and Bolden bro.

Don't care, those guys aren't ready. Bolden isn't ready for the lights and Giles isn't in game shape yet. March? Absolutely. Just not yet. Amile is essential to Duke being elite this season.

Need Amile for defensive reasons. Harry is probably better than Amile already, but he can't call out the defense like Amile can. Not even close. I liked the effort out of Bolden tonight. I think he's starting to figure it out. His question mark has always been his motor - I think he realized tonight if he plays hard he'll be rewarded.

Sorry my sarcasm meter had been temporarily interfered with, due to copious amounts of Tennessee Old No. 7 whiskey because snow parties are rare in the Piedmont of North Carolina.

Sounds like Amile's injury isn't as bad as last year. Sounds similar to Jayson Tatum's and he should be back this year, just no timetable yet. Could be a blessing in disguise with Bolden and Harry having to step it up with him out.

Bolden needs to stop being a p###y.

Well, if there's one thing we found out tonight, it's that Capel won't be Duke's next head coach. Sheesh, that was awful.

I don't know how you get to that conclusion after what 1 game. Duke is still banged up, I'll give it until late February, early March to see how this goes.

I was 90% kidding, but I do think that was one of the worst coached games I've ever seen.

It's hard for me to ignore the fact the Giles and Bolden got so much hype.... it's all we heard was wait until they play....

I mean Giles has had a major and an minor knee surgery since last playing. I think he played 1 or 2 games of his senior year then was out. He hasn't played in a while and he's getting up to speed. The fact that he's even playing for Duke, let alone starting, in great for us. Many thought he'd just sit out. He's getting better every game, it's just a little unfortunate for him that he's having to get up to speed after not playing in more than a year against ACC competition. That's not easy for anyone. Give him 5ish more games and I think we'll start to see the hype.

As for Bolden, he's been a curious case. Before the season, many said he was the starter after seeing practices, then he got hurt. He was undoubtedly set back by this, but even now, he doesn't look ready at all. Maybe he's still not fully healthy? Idk, but he's had a real short leash with the coaching staff - 1 mistake and he's out so he hasn't had any chances to play extended minutes and learn the game. Idk if he's played more than 7 mins in a game honestly. Idk if we'll see the real Bolden, but I don't think the coaching staff is doing him any favors by not letting him play thru mistakes. His big question mark is his motor and that's been obvious to anyone who watches. If they can figure out what makes him go, then I think could possibly see the real Bolden. As of now, I think he's back in Durham next year.

That might be the one positive that comes from this. Capel can recruit, but he's never been a good coach.

idc. The claims/declarations were ridiculous.
