Official GOP Convention thread

My greatest disappointment tonight is that no one but me has called out PKT for suggesting Condi Rice is really a tranny.

Again, while I respect your beliefs... voting your principles in this election will have zero effect on improving the economy.

No doubt. The hope is that it will in some small way advance the libertarian cause. I can't tell you the amount of people that have told me they would vote Libertarian if they thought they had any shot at winning. Thus, we have to build some sort of momentum at some point. Revolutions will never start by sticking to the status que for the sake of thinking your vote is not meaningless.

Humbly - what I think the Libertarian cause is missing is that they've already shaped the agenda. Look at the message tonight - no social agenda; no abortion mention; limited foreign intervention; big focus on individual freedom, on self reliance, on limited government, etc. You may not believe these guys will follow through but at least they are singing your song (if only a verse or two).

If you are waiting for someone to only say exactly what you want you will be waiting a long, long time.

The key difference is thinking versus knowing. If I thought a third party vote could make a difference I would gladly offer it up, but the numbers just don't support it happening this election. Ross Perot had the best opportunity to make an impact, and unfortunately he was the wrong candidate at the right time... imo. Hopefully a Libertarian or other moderate 3P candidate gets that opportunity again in the not too distant future.

and therein lies the rub- they need support to be included in the conversation but many won't support someone not in the lead.

No issues here. If you clearly dislike both candidates equally, which seems to possibly be the case, then I wouldn't vote for either one of them. There are a number of things that I don't agree with Romney on as well. However, if I wait for a candidate that shares exactly the same values that I have, I won't be casting a vote for a long time. I want my vote to count, and as such I have to determine if one candidate represents my interests more than the other... even though it may only be a slight difference.

I respect this, although not in total agreement. I just feel like the "one" candidate who is perfect to my beliefs is running, this election, and I just don't want to miss the opportunity to vote for him.

I did not watch tonight. But I did read that the GOP platform contains planks for no abortion (under ANY circumstances) and no gay marriage. How do you have these two rather controversial planks in your platform, yet NOT talk about it at your convention?

1) the no abortion under any circumstances is not correct - it's a continuation of a plank that has existed since 2000 or 2004 and was not an add on and as far as I know is not an "under any circumstances" plank. Romney/Ryan did not add this.

2) I think any platform has many, many planks and many of those are not explicit priorities of the team.

In short, I've seen nothing from Romney/Ryan that suggests they see either issue as something to devote energy too. It's just not part of the message.

Cannot argue with this. Much respect.

on Fox now Michelle Bachmann is on. I know she is bat-shiz crazy but she's looking cougar-licous.

(yes I bin dranking)

I searched back a page or two, but laziness took over. Any thoughts on the rules changes/compromise about the candidate handpicking the state's delegates?

Let's start off in this thread to, instead of debating aclg's socialist talking points, focus on who's watching what.

According to the ratings, FOX has more viewers than MSNBC, CNN, ABC and CBS combined, that should tell you where middle America really is.

Ryan's speech tonight hit it out of the park imo.

Unfortunately I can't watch FOX so I watched NBC which talked right through the speech of the Latino governor of New Mexico while they tried to pee all over the Condaleeza Rice speech so I just listened to her speech on the radio but I did catch the end of it on PBS, which to their credit did broadcast it.

I think the republicans are doing a good job of dispelling the democrat myth that the republican party is the party of the rich when nothing could be farther from the truth.

Ann Romney talking about being the granddaughter of a Welsh coal miner was very inspiring.

I love that dude that is running for Romney's vice president. I prob wont even vote for Obama now. What a great speech he gave. One of the best in convention history. And he looks younger than 42.

Hmmmm. Maybe you need to do a bit of research first Billy. Then again, I don't guess it really matters at the end of the day.
