Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Yeah.. me, Ape, and a couple others drove right past "little iffy" without even slowing down, many moons ago no less.

Also, whether they admit it or not, Loother, LG, and a couple others are so delusional and detached from actual reality that they are certainly " Coo Coo for CoCo Puffs" too....if you know what i mean. Their hatred for a certain former Leader of the Free World alone is enough to put them 2 notches past "Batsheit" on the ole CrazyMeter....and probably enough to land them in a list/database with the powers that be....

I'll take 15.

They put the beating on TAM lol

And I see Texas is ranked after a loss
I dont like being ranked so high. Seems like teams that get big bumps go through a correction.

And we beat an ACC team, after they lost their starting QB, and it took us overtime. It's not like we put on a clinic. And while our D looked improved it still gave up more than 400 yards of offense.

I would rather we only earn the rankings after some SEC wins that will actually mean something.

I'll take a Florida win, keeping it close with UGA, a UK win and maybe even a close one with Bama.

I'm not sure Bama is that good this year.

The season will be what it will be. Enjoy the accolades.

We are not close to UGA and Bama, yet. With that perspective, the rankings and what will come don't really matter that much. As long as the wheels don't come completely off, the rankings, exciting games, and "looking" like we belong on the field will all go a long way in continuing to boost our recruiting.

Agreed. Good post.

After a day or 2 of cooling off, removing emotions from the equation etc i feel a lot more optimistic. I think we will beat Flarduh and lose a random game besides the big 2. Thinking 9-3 despite our struggles at Cornerback now. This team showed several things we never had under the Gump, maybe since Fulmer...

1. Playing all 4 quarters with real effort
2. Mentally strong. Not getting frustrated or discouraged down 10 points (an end zone pick being only reason not down 17-0 in 1st)
3. Real leadership and accountability...coaches and guys
4. An offense that can score on anybody, which teams actually hate and fear
5. A top tier coach the players both love and respect. These guys would run thru a brick wall for CJH. He really cares about them and praises them instead of blaming them. Even when not their best.

Linked article below has 2 great interviews. Tillman and Hooker. Extremely impressed by their maturity and leadership. Both are intelligent young men headed for the NFL. Proud of them.

I should have said "so high so early". Omce we prove ourselves against Florida I wont mind a top 10 ranking. Definitely feeling like 8-4 is our absolute floor, expecting 9-3, wouldnt be shocked by 10-2.

Giving up 400 yards on defense is terrible without doubt; however, you and I may be comparing football as it is to football as it was. The rules hobble defenses these days - starting with holding that isn't considered holding. If a defender can be held legally, then he can't very well have the mobility to disrupt plays; and that means offenses are going to have time for passes to set up or for runners to find nice gaping holes.

Then there are the rules "for safety" that go against the defense, but apparently it doesn't matter if an offensive player does the same thing. When a Pitt player took (as I recall a kickoff or punt) and ran with it, play was stopped to see if the TN player was guilty of targeting - dangerous stuff according to the NCAA when a defender leads with the crown of the helmet. The Pitt player resembled a torpedo and definitely led with the crown of his helmet which is apparently "safe" but almost impossible to stop without getting as low - which according to the laws of physics and body mechanics almost dictates a head to head collision. Consider also facemask penalties and compare those to stiff arms and damage potential to necks.

Saban has been a lot more irritated than usual. Hopefully he knows it's a down year...

Of course, a down year for Bama is still 10 wins minimum.

Saban is looking really worn down, too. I think the dynasty is showing early signs of faltering.

It's probably tough sledding when recruits see other opportunities and you can't outbid everybody for them. It always seemed like Bama played both offense and defense in recruiting before the portal and now NIL. The more top level guys they could recruit and put on the bench meant the fewer of those guys the faced on the field. Apparently riding the bench at Bama vs getting noticed by the pros while playing at other schools isn't working out as well for Bama these days. I still detest NIL as it's being done, but there are some benefits when recruiting against teams like Bama.

Even the best have off days. I used to hate it when Peyton Manning was our QB and the weather forecast was for cool temps and rain. It seemed he always struggled in those conditions. Everybody has off days, but luckily for most of us those days aren't as noticeable as for guys on a football field or a racetrack etc.

I have a hard time expecting Ellis Who to be what everybody thinks they will be. Maybe they will, but every coaching change is a gamble. A guy who was unbeatable at one school is never a sure thing elsewhere. Others like TAMU's gold plated coach are simply overrated for no apparent reason; I've never figured that one out except to think TAMU has more money than common sense.

I agree with the offensive player lowering his helmet. I would love to see that get called as targetting too.

Just this weekend I saw a ball carrier called for a face mask. Theirs is a bit softer because they just cant grip the facemask but it's ok to touch or push it. That would be another equalizer I would like to see.
