I think i read Google purchased Waze.Yep when i first started using it back in the day it would always ask if I was walking or driving. I heard it was developed by the Israeli IDF originally before it ever went public and came here. Its saved my butt from sitting in a traffic jam for untold hours too many times to count. It will route you thru a residential neighborhood, cutting thru a commercial park, even a big shopping center or parking lot tp get around accidents or standstill traffic. Amazing cooperative app that also tells you when there is a police car, objects in the road, road hazards to watch out for etc...truly awesome. I had to turn off the audio though lmao...I cant listen to someone tell me where to go regardless of who it is. Same as google.

Blowing Rock is a few miles from Boone, NC. Have you seen the photos of Boone? Cancel your trip. Think maybe 2 years from now.Posted this in the weather thread, but re-posting here for any input:
Question for anyone who might have knowledge:
I am supposed to go up to Blowing Rock NC weekend of October 11 and meet some family there for a few days. I was going to then drive down the Blueridge Pkwy or to Asheville, then to North Georgia and do some looking for possible future residence when I retire, but that portion of the trip is obviously off.
My concern even with going to Blowing Rock a week from now is that there will no real opportunity to do anything or go anywhere beyond that and that instead the town may well still be sort of a staging area for trucks, supplies, repair crews, and the like, headed to Asheville or thereabouts.
So, considering holding off on the trip and just cancelling reservations, flights, etc. for the moment. Any insights on how things are in the Blowing Rock area for general tourists like we would be?
I had friends who took hours to get out of blowing rock in the midst of the storm Thursday.Posted this in the weather thread, but re-posting here for any input:

Blowing Rock is not as bad as Boone, but it is close a little higher up on the mountain. As you all may know we usually build roads in the mountains beside a creek or river, path of least resistance already carved out. Lots of creeks and rivers through those areasBlowing Rock is a few miles from Boone, NC. Have you seen the photos of Boone? Cancel your trip. Think maybe 2 years from now.

That was before the worst of it hit.
No chance I’d go there if I weren’t part of the relief effort, with known sources of food and clean water.
I don’t mean this to be a wise guy, but if you are thinking about going there a week from now you do not have a grasp on just how bad things are in those mountains.
Yeah not a good idea to travel to any of these area for anything. I have family from stoney creek, Hampton, roan mountain, Boone, and Linville. They are all safe but supplies are scarce. There are still 2 areas i know of that are completely cut off by road, Elk Mills off of 321 on the way to Boone and Bumpus Cove off of hwy 81.I had friends who took hours to get out of blowing rock in the midst of the storm Thursday.

What was it about women in the 60s? I was just a boy, but goodness!
What was it about @McDad in those go-go boots!Mcdad has go go boots just like those
So it’s drizzling rain which makes a good day to sit on the balcony and watch the people at the pool. A woman literally walks out of the pool gets her stuff and pops open an umbrella to walk out of the pool area.
We’re fine. This new thing forming in the gulf has the potential to really devastate the area. Hopefully, it stays disorganized.@ClearwaterVol checking in to see if you and your family are ok?
