Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I'm about to quit watching anything on Hulu. Seems like all the commercials you have to sit through are DEI oriented - like a liberal reeducation camp of some sort. It's like total immersion rather than just the run of the mill commercials that can't operate without families composed of every race and ethnicity. At some point, enough agenda pushing is enough.
Of course...it's Disney.

On the topic of funny air travel. Did you know that for many years on Friday the 13th, you could fly Finnair flight AY666 from Copenhagen to HEL (Helsinki). They don't do that flight number now, but if you find yourself in Singapore, you can fly from SIN to HEL.

We really need some trashing of non SEC teams with winning seasons and loser schedules - like IN getting blown away by OH St. Indiana is the poster child for teams in the top 10 without having played a real game throughout the season. In fact, when you look at it, none of the top four big10 teams has a solid resume. OR has one "credible" win - 1 point over OH St who has one "credible" win over PN St; otherwise PN St would be like IN, having played nobody of note at all. Any of those teams may be solid, but it's unproven and the season is nearing an end. The ACC and other dwarf conferences are as bad or worse than the big10.
Oregon also beat Boise State, whose only loss is Oregon. It aint much, but in the Big 10 it makes them the tallest midget.

Commercials in no way reflect the actual demographics of our country, and apparently are not going to. Its just weird. Big shift happened with the BLM riots/grift and apparently its gonna stay that way.

Minorites (notice the name, opposite of majority) are way overrepresented. Way. In some cases, by orders of magnitude. Look up the % makeup of the US per our last census. The people depicted in commercials are not even close to what our country actually is. There is a concerted effort to reflect woke BS, also an effort to normalize or popularize Leftist ideals. They also rarely even try to market things to the people who are actually going to be buying them...if they did so, the vast majority of their products and services would be marketed towards wives/moms. They are the ones who purchase the majority of things that come into households. White suburban moms to be more specific. They are the ones who actually purchase the overwhelming majority of food, clothing, gifts including Christmas and birthdays etc, school supplies, toys, etc etc. By far the biggest consumers of goods and services, and in most cases who runs the households in America on a day to day basis. Plenty of single moms sadly that do the exact same. Watch commercials though and see who is actually depicted in them. Its not a bunch of white chicks in SUVs and minivans. If moms are shown, they are likely to be black or brown, and if they are white it will be with a black or brown husband. As if 75% of people are in interracial marriages. They are in commercials... in reality not so much. Its just weird. As someone who has 2/3 sisters that are black...I promise you mixed race families simply are not commonplace. You get funny looks when you introduce your family members if they are black and you're white. Its funny to me, and not a big deal. Its not super rare or anything in 2024...but it is far from the norm. If I was a foreigner though in the US on vacation, based on commercials I would think the US was a giant Leftist melting pot where most families were biracial and about 10-20% of folks were gay/lesbian. If anyone has any idea why this might be, or how this is a good marketing strategy, I am all ears.

I don't think Airwolf has that "triggering" effect as the other shows I listed. I tried to cover all the bases..... the Rebel flag, nazis, church going Southern white people, and Veterans with guns.

I would like to add a monthly marathon day of Blazing Saddles, Smokey and the Bandit, and old Clint Eastwood movies.

That actually sounds like an awesome channel. MSNBC ratings would go through the roof.
History of the World Part 1. Was hilarious as well. Couldn't be made in today's environment.

I understand, but I find it easy to look over it if it is just a few posts.

It's usually only a few posts because someone comes in and squelches it.

Bringing up Blazing Saddles with any dude over 40 will always devolve into a circle lamentation of the good ole days that will go on until a reasonable person comes in, pinches their cheeks, and tells them that everything is okay before pointing them to modern masterpieces like Sausage Party (which is filled to the brim with enough racial/cultural stereotypes and sexual innuendo to get their wet noodle stiff as it was when TVs still had antennae).

lets tone it back gentlemen. we have a couple threads for that talk.

Lmao. Yeah, I certainly wasnt trying to be political in here. On the topic of getting funny looks as previously mentioned....my wife and I are also named Marcus and Sheena. You can be sure that nobody ever when looking at our paperwork say to buy a car, house, kids school stuff...literally anything requiring both of our names, has ever for a moment thought that we are white. We have a last name that is also very common among black folks...all the NBA, NFL and college players that I joke about being my cousins (because they have the same last name) are in fact black.

This is a thread to be completely free of any and all partisan nonsense.

Goes for both sides, even if it's almost always only one trying to stink up the place.

The discussion was basically centered on "societal norms" as the arts have portrayed and drifted into the fact that those "norms" were hijacked and acceptability changed by political parties. The evil discussed is not what norms are correct or what political belief is correct - simply to point out that politics has corrupted/co-opted values and that seemingly non-political facets as simple as a commercial have become highly politicized. If we always shuffle off all that discussion to "relevant" (read: generally polarized) platforms and never discuss it otherwise, then we shouldn't be surprised by outcomes when "we said nothing because it didn't affect us".

We casually talk sports here frequently, too; and there are forums specifically for that.

but this is the off topic thread in the Political Forum. it makes sense to discuss something off topic from the politics, like football. where as something "on topic" belongs in a corresponding thread.

I think Freak generally keeps the politics talk locked down to this forum, and most of the people in this forum avoid the others. you won't catch me in a gameday thread, no thank you. but if he did allow off topic threads in the FF with political talk, it would make sense for discussion on the wokeness of commercials to come up there, as it would be off topic for that forum, and not to show in a football thread.

I'll offer a different example. A couple of days ago I read an article as I recall pushing induction cooktops - praising the efficiency and in the article condemning "dirty gas". That's become a "political" issue as well when you get right down to it. For a long time NG was considered clean energy, but now there's a campaign to trash it. What wasn't even mentioned was the large amount of electricity in this country produced by NG. What also wasn't mentioned was the the thermal conversion efficiency for almost all types of generation that use steam to turn turbines (whether gas, coal, nuclear, ...) is generally little better than 30% (more than 50% fuel goes as waste heat - energy). Also not mentioned was that those are the reliable sources that produce power all night and all day generally regardless of weather. In essence you'd likely waste less and pollute less with "dirty gas" to heat your home, your water, and to cook.

We should call attention to those things here. Biases that aren't political but are driven by politics. And we should point them out because I'd bet many posters here didn't read the article but would have been concerned if they had and were presented "the rest of the story".

Sorry, but when terms like leftists, liberals, woke, and BLM are in a discussion about whether or not Mel Brooks could make a movie today, it's intellectually dishonest to say that is simply an OT discussion regarding societal norms that is free of partisan takes.

I'd recommend starting a thread about it if you have the overwhelming gumption to pop off on the subject. I'll see you there.

Otherwise, this ain't the place. Literally anywhere but here lol.

@Grand Vol other than not oiling the 2 places everybody in the comments says not to oil , is this how you oil and clean your Glocks or similar pistols? My Glock34 gen5 is new and not even "broken in" yet , but I love it and want to take good care of it. Next to that FN 5.7 my boss has, it is my favorite pistol that I have ever shot honestly. For the same reasons too...they are both long barrel, little recoil, and even I can shoot halfway decent groups with them without much experience as a shooter. I just cant justify the 5.7 or the ammo price until i get my youngest out of college anyway. I got this one from a buddy too...he had it stippled and put some nice green tritium? Or trijicon? Sights on it. I love the way it feels in my hand, and dont trust the red dot sights as much so it is pretty much perfect for me. I dont want to change anything about it, i just want to get good at assemble/disassemble/cleaning and make sure that I take good care of it so I can use it safely and leave it to my son someday. Thanks for any tips, help, or advice. I know this is your area of expertise.

There was a kid named Marcus Luttrel in my high school. All the teachers would pronounce it "Loo-trell" (it was Lut-Rell) and it was always hilarious when this goofy blonde haired white kid would stand up afterwards.

Oil the rails, that's all you need on a pistol.

Otherwise, cleaning should be a relatively simple affair.
