Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

The way some handle (or maybe it's more accurate to say don't handle) disappointment is shocking. How do adults function without the ability to effectively manage setbacks? Life will kick you in the nuts repeatedly. Not coping only makes it worse.
I’m a graduate of UT. I enjoy the entertainment of different sports but it doesn’t really change anything in my life. It’s shocking how much college sports played by people we don’t know and will never meet can so adversely impact some people.

I think last night is proof that recruiting is king. If you’re not in the top 5 consistently you’re not winning championships.
It takes a lot of luck too. For example I don’t think the Suckeyes are winning this thing. Their coach lacks the ability to manage a team day to day (like most coaches honestly) he needs the “it’s us against them “ to win. He used that effectively vs us. It’s traditionally near impossible to pull that off for multiple weeks in a row. They likely get smashed by the Ducks

In the general cliche, you're right.

Jimmies, Joe's, Development, Coaching, Scheme...it's all important.

But let's be honest about college athletics...teams are differently motivated week to week. We saw an OSU team which was pissed and focused....and maybe playing for their coach's job. They had not played that way all season.
We were shell shocked and shrunk in the spotlight. Our most intense game was Oklahoma. We did not bring that intensity to Columbus.

I don’t think OHSt is winning it either, I predicted the final would be UGA v TX or UT so I of course got 1 wrong.

Of course development, coaching and scheme are important but like cooking a great chef with mediocre ingredients will make a mediocre meal.

He will have to be #1 for 2 years to ave #5. Or #5 for 4 consecutive years.
The fall off in composite rankings doesn’t really start till 15. Honestly I think 8-10 is good enough to be consistently competitive and even win the occasional championship.
I think the portal and nil has rendered the dominance of one or two programs obsolete.
