The fall off in composite rankings doesn’t really start till 15. Honestly I think 8-10 is good enough to be consistently competitive and even win the occasional championship.
I think the portal and nil has rendered the dominance of one or two programs obsolete.
Hog says we need to be #5. He's only been wrong once this year.

The way some handle (or maybe it's more accurate to say don't handle) disappointment is shocking. How do adults function without the ability to effectively manage setbacks? Life will kick you in the nuts repeatedly. Not coping only makes it worse.

What is our composite recruiting ranking?

This is key. 4 year recruiting composite is THE most accurate predictor of who wins when the top 10 or 15 teams play eachother. For the 1st time since eventual national Champ UGA in Athens in 22, we were measured and shown to be lacking from a talent perspective. Ohio State clearly had the better players (they have 14 total 5*players, we have 5 I believe) . They whipped us on BOTH lines, which shouldnt have happened vs Garners guys but it surely did just like in Athens this year. They have the best WRs in the country (four 5* guys, we have Matthews) they had corners that shut down our WRs the whole game and the best Safety in FBS that will be a 1st or 2nd round draft pick. 4 year recruiting average makes a big difference. We were measured and found lacking.

I love this staff and this team, and am proud of what they achieved this year. To take the next step and get into the elite 5 or 6 teams with a real chance to win it all every season, we are gonna have to recruit top 10 classes every year for 4 years. We gotta stack those up like pancakes. The 24 and 25 classes are a good start...26 and 27 will need to be as good or better to compete. Having these elite QBs we keep signing will give us a chance. Looks like we are still 2 years away though minimum from being able to win it all. Thanks to CJH and this staff...what they have done the past 2 years is astounding and deserves the respect their body of work suggests. We have averaged 10 wins over the last 3 years...not 9. To average 10 in years 2, 3, and 4 of taking over a complete dumpster fire is amazing IMO. GO VOLS

Truth. Top 10 every year WITH elite QBs and skill position players can get it done. Luckily we are literally 2nd to none with QB recruiting under CJH.

I’ll be interested to see what king of step forward Nico takes from this year to next. Not saying Nico will be great but hooker looked like a deer in headlights too …..till he didn’t.
Nico has potential to be even better…..we shall see. We desperately need better o line play

Our Oline got flat whipped last night...and OSU offensive line held their own all night long with a backup center, backup Left Tackle, and rotating 2 players at one of the Guard spots. Against:

1st round Pearce
1st/early 2nd. Omar NLott

Middle round guys Big O and Josephs. Among others.

Imagine what they would have done with all 5 starters present. We are still a couple years away it seems...maybe Jake or Faizon wins it all...dont know that Nico will be here then unless we throw a HUGE amount of $$$ around

Which is OK. Things take time. Glad we are back in the mix. Fwiw...i didnt mention Gmac because i dont think he beats out Jake....or Faizon

We almost lost all the O line last year but they decided to give it one more year. So…..it could have been so much worse.
I think you’re correct. The year after next will be the earliest we see improvement in O line play.
Nico might need that much time too

On one of Nico’s scrambles they rushed only three and got pressure on him and got him moving. Outside of Mays our O line is complete trash and has been all year. And even with that we were able to mount a potent run offense in most games. No threat of that last night though! Just mind boggling. Should emphasize just how good of a back Sampson, and Bishop for that matter, is.

Nico has a LONG way to go before he’s an early round draft pick. I fully expect him to still be playing college ball in 2026.

Strongly possible. If this happens we lose Jake IMO...no way he sits behind Nico for 3 years right? This year was a redshirt though so he still has 4 to play. Jake is a good QB IMO. Gmac is too...no way we keep all of them though. Faizon may well be the best of all 4 of them, IF he has the brains. Gotta be at least average intelligence to be an elite QB. There are good QBs that are dumb...but truly elite guys like Peyton, Brady, Montana, Elway, Marino etc are all sharp guys. Athletic ability doesnt get it done at the elite level in football...in college maybe...in the NFL not so much.

I don’t worry about losing players because they aren’t starting or playing enough. If they were better, then they would play more.

I would relish this job but need to ketchup my driving skills or couldnt cut the mustard..

shamelessly stolen from article comments..

PFF grades are in from yesterday

Mays, Karic, and Heard played at a backup level

Spraggins played at replacement level

Dayne and Campbell were in the trash category (sub 50)

So I agree on Mays yesterday. Nobody on the O line played well yesterday but Mays has played well most of the year. And he’s actually a little small to play center at the next level but I think he’ll get a shot. Heard and Campbell have been absolute trash all year but sadly we’ve nobody better in the roster to put in it looked like to me. 🤷‍♂️

Mays is OK but has largely graded in the backup range against good DLs (he is by far the best of the 5 on the line). Yeah, probably too small for the next level but very key to the running scheme.

Heard wasnt as bad yesterday but Campbell and Dayne were really bad (I was thinking they would end up in the 30s watching in person but they barely crscked 40)

But when two backup transfer tackles and a walk on tackle play against a DL like OSU, you get yesterday.

Gotta up our NIL game

Mays has skill its literally in his DNA but his size hampers him even at this level. He knows how to play the position but he can get overran. At the next level he would largely get bull rushed up the middle and over powered most of the time I think.

I don’t think anybody else on the O line could get a sniff of an NFL practice squad.
