Official Jon Gruden Thread 33

I think Beav is the horse. The questions. What is the deception he is spinning? And, what is the real end game?

Is Gruden a deception and another coach the real target? Perhaps one that is currently coaching?

I hope he does, but I dont think Gruden will say yes. Looking at Currie's body language I believe he is full on Mullen and Frost. Just my personal opinion.

Reporter: What's your message to the fans?
Hoke: These Seniors have won 29 games. When you look at what they've done, the guys who have lasted, they've put their heart and soul into it. It's important that they be appreciated for what they've done. VolNation has passion, and those passions go both ways. When you look at it for the young people, it's much harder than it used to be, due to media and social media. They ought to be appreciated. It's not like they haven't practiced hard, or stayed together. It's a tribute to Coach (Jones).

Remember, we're talking Cindy's family here. I'm sure Jon loves them all, too, but while he's out running around coaching and recruiting and holding clinics and camps, Cindy gets to be near her family.

Keep mama happy, and everyone gets to be happy.

Wisest thing you’ve ever said. And there are a lot of candidates.

"For first time in my life I believe Jon Gruden is a 50/50 to UT." John Brice on Basilio

Don't underestimate how big of a deal this is. You won't find any Bucs writer who will say anything like this.

Media, like fans, got burned in 2012 and are going to be VERY hesitant to say anything positive about Gruden coming. So to admit 50/50 is a HUGE deal.

Thats amazing.

I am at work - no time to bullsh

What was Adrian Martinez's quote this morning?

Easy, Seabiscuit.

Immediately after Butch Jones was dismissed as Tennessee’s head coach Sunday, commitments quickly began dropping their pledges from the school in the wake of the news. One prospect that has decided to stick with the Vols is four-star California signal caller Adrian Martinez.

The school’s top-ranked offensive pledge spoke with Josh Ward of WNML Sports Radio in Knoxville Sunday night to discuss his status with the school following the departure of Jones.

No surprise, Martinez did not see this move coming when he originally committed to play for Tennessee over the summer.

“We didn’t want this to happen, but all we can do is look forward,” Martinez said on the air.

Ward’s followup regarded the QB’s status with Tennessee following the news.

“Right now, I’m still committed. I committed to Tennessee for more than just the coaching staff, obviously, but a part of that equation is the coaching staff,” Martinez answered. “Right now, I want to wait and see how this thing plays out, I want to get to know the new coaches, whenever that happens — see where they stand with me, see if I can fit with them, feel if I can be coached by them. For the time being, I’m committed to Tennessee. I’m optimistic about how things play out from here.”

With Jones now out at Tennessee, the school’s AD John Currie has personally reached out to Martinez and his family to provide them with information into the school’s process and where things stand in the coaching search. According to Martinez, the school is working quickly to hire a new coach and expects a decision to be made soon.

“I can tell from what he told my father and I, he’s working really really hard,” Martinez continued. “He said it’s going to take awhile, it won’t be hours until a decision will be made, but it will be days. There’s a lot of work that has to go into this decision. It’s going to be a leader and someone that’s going to get this program back where it needs to be. He really reassured us that he’s going to get it done soon.”

Without providing any specific details on candidates, Currie’s message to the quarterback appears to have resonated.

“It gave me confidence that something is going to happen soon,” he said. “For me, going through this process, I plan on signing December 20th, and I know a lot of other players do as well — as far as being an early enrollee or early signing day period, the thought is this has to happen fast for a lot of us.”

The big question on Martinez’s mind, as is likely the question all Tennessee commits or recruits are asking, will a new coach be in place in time for the early signing day? According to Currie, there’s no doubt the answer is yes.

“I asked (John Currie) if I can expect to see this new coach, get to talk to him and get a feel before I go in and sign with this school and he said most certainly,” Martinez said. “He actually said, ‘If there’s not a new head football coach by December 20th then there will be a new AD in town.’ So I’m confident the job will get done and done as quickly as it can.”

While Tennessee fans are likely eagerly awaiting a decision, it appears Currie is focusing in on a candidate and will name him shortly. The sooner that process is complete, the sooner Tennessee can start the process of climbing up the SEC ladder.

The stalking horse is not the deception of the idea itself, but the deception of who the idea is coming from.

Beav is stating he has been put out by the individual with the real power, to bring claims of Gruden to the masses to cause a reaction. What does this do? It puts pressure on those against the idea, because now the idea exists in the public. The idea Gruden is coming and nothing else will be accepted.

If the deal falls through, well, Beav takes the heat from the masses, but the powers that be do not.

If it goes through, the powers that be accomplished their task, and they can either choose to come out and claim the idea as their own, or remain in the shadows.

Per my source which is highly reliable, I was told that Currie has contacted a certain person, and told them that an announcement would be coming soon. Not in like hours but soon. They already have their guy, they just going through the process. I have no reason to doubt this whatsoever.

Just read this during my later morning catch-up and had to comment, even though I'm skipping a bunch of pages to do it.

Friend, I have no idea whether your info is good, bad, or indifferent. But if you would like for people to take you seriously, please try not to write every word like you're the world's saddest troll. I mean, it's so stereotypically troll that I'm half of the mind that this is actually blue font, in which case this is absolutely brilliant blue font.

In short, I don't know whether to laugh at you or applaud you, and this has left me feeling confused and conflicted. Someone help me out here! :)

I am just going to hope it is Gruden, but not get those hopes to high. I know how last time went.

There are some other really good options out there...some we don't even know about.

I have been highly invested in this from the get go, but I have also kept my emotions in check by keeping it at arm's length. I have held to the - "I'll believe it when I see it" - approach. That said, from all indications, if we don't land Gruden, it won't be because we didn't go after him. We still have our power pieces on the board, just need to submissively checkmate his king.
