Money will be a factor. We're hemorrhaging millions in revenue due to empty seats, concessions, etc. Spend money to make money. Don't take this as a "we can't afford to make a huge hire". Rather it is a "we can't afford not to make a huge hire." Boosters to the rescue.

Great article. If the money is there, I really think that Tennessee is about to take things up a couple notches.

Hard to say. Once upon a time there were 31 teams in the NFL and the Raiders. Now there are 32 teams in the NFL.

Al Davis wanted to win, and he did win. Few owners in the NFL have won 3 superbowls, and Al did it with 3 almost totally different teams. But in the last years, he was more of a deterrent to the team than an asset.

Now Reggie is trying to build a team the same way the rest of the NFL does it, and it is a strange thing to Raider fans.

Hart's comment is the one thing I've read that gives any credence to UT making a credible attempt to attract Gruden. It does not single Gruden out of the pack but seems to indicate they are serious about attracting a winning coach. Good news for all.

+1 This is what the fans expect and what the university deserves. I am thrilled with this news!

I know some UT fans think others are foolish about Gruden. But let me tell you these factors that are different:

1. He's no longer being paid compensation by Tampa.
2. He wants to coach again
3. He started his coaching career at Tennessee
4. His wife is a UT grad and a former cheerleader
5. Wasn't interested in 10 because kiffin left program in shambles
6. Hamilton is not the AD anymore

Solid list. Most folks never take #1 into consideration.

I really don't think it matters what's out there in the media. It's pretty obvious that UT is going to go after Gruden with all of the things that have been leaked here.

If there was a hidden agenda in that it was you have to have a great coach. Bama would have never been where they are today under those other coaches. Saban made this happen!

Hart needs to do his job and find the money. He knew that's what he was getting into. Also, there is a lot to be said for bringing in a guy like Hart with an outside perspective who knows that we've got a way to go. The only way that the facilities and everything else gets upgraded is with money. Money comes from butts in seats, and butts in seats are a result of wins.

says he has talked to people (remember he also works at espn) and gruden has talked to people that he would be interested in Tennessee. says if he coaches in college, he would like it to be here. i say hart needs to throw a solid 6 mil at em and call it a championship
