says he has talked to people (remember he also works at espn) and gruden has talked to people that he would be interested in Tennessee. says if he coaches in college, he would like it to be here. i say hart needs to throw a solid 6 mil at em and call it a championship

I don't mind them paying him that much , but I believe he would take less. He only wanted 4.3 to take the Miami job in 2010. But if it takes more , fine. Do whatever it takes.

Not to argue your intention, but I'm telling you coaching at a college level, especially in the SEC, is more of a challenge than coaching in the NFL. I would say, he would want more money to come to UT. Not to say UT is unwilling to pay it.

LMAO. College is tougher than the NFL? Really? So why didn't Saban and Spurrier succeed?

Why do you continue to make statements that have nothing to do with what I say? I see you post and I start thinking , he is finally getting it. Then I read this stuff. Lol

The NFL is 32 teams with an equal payroll, draft that penalizes the best teams and schedules made to create parity. Gruden at Tennessee would have access to the best talent in the country every year. A schedule set up with no more than four games against teams with talent parity would be much better than the NFL.

The quick and easy answer would be owners with their hands in the mix, players with huge ego's, wallets, contract lawyers and agents, and every player is a top tiered proven talent. Those players are very well aware that it is a job and the contract is tied to performance.

19 year old kids show up on campus with a high school letterman's jacket and an attitude and little else except raw talent. ( I was one of those a very long time ago) A college coach must be able to develop that talent and teach how to use it on the field and make sure they are making the grades, playing the part of parent when families are sometimes thousands of miles away and all the while keeping a multimillion dollar operation running smoothly.

Saban and Spurrier didn't succeed because of the huge difference between collegiate coaching and an NFL team. Please note that nowhere in that statement did I say Gruden would not be able to do the job.

Where did I say you said that? You can cut your eyes all damn day at me. You are just dead wrong on your opinion that the NFL is an easier job than the college game. Go create a poll in the football section and see how many agree with you.

I guess by your logic , high school and pee wee football must be the most difficult coaching jobs in sports.

Then by your logic the Grudenites are in trouble. What little I know of J. Gruden he is not the type to take an easy path and if it is not a challenge he probably will not be interested.

He already has won it all at the highest level there is in football. We are just fine.

You think Gruden would tell you coaching in the NFL is easier than college? Try harder.

I wonder who the Paul Revere will be when JG is announced in the middle of the night? I think it will be Worley. He'll be riding a horse down the strip yelling Jon Gruden's coming!

I know quite a bit about the game. I by no means think I'm an expert, but to think college is tougher than the NFL is a pretty untenable position, imo.

Guys if you had your choice between teaching a first year college D end how to roll and shed a block versus a first year first round draft pick which would be easier? One of course already knows how.

An NFL coach has a billion dollar money making machine at his disposal on and off the field. Difficult? Yes, for an entirely different set of reasons.

For those out there that still doubt the credibility of the ones here relaying info on the situation, I have to ask, are you not paying attention?
Go back to the early days of the original thread. The outlandish things the guys were saying are now being hinted at by the media. If you listen to the Ainge show, hell he sounds like Jay posting on here about the goings on behind the scene. The media is starting to mention Gruden by name and they aren't immediately writing him off as a pipe dream. Where there is smoke, there is fire.
I am not saying that we get Gruden but there obviously something going on between UT and Chucky. I turn 42 on Nov. 21 and can't think of a better birthday gift than landing Gruden as our head coach.
Pray for no Hamilton-like snags.

I am sure he would. Maybe we will have a chance to ask that question in person come April.

You realize that rookie will be going against the best there is every single week in the NFL. There are no Georgia States or Akrons in that league. There is so much more to teach and a much shorter leash on NFL coaches. One and done sometimes. This is why there are so many who don't make it in the league. Any way you try to spin it , the NFL is still tougher.

Doyle, if it makes any difference, what I am hearing says that there may be "something" in the works. After reading what Hart had to say, I am leaning toward UT really making an effort to get Gruden. They need to raise capital fast and need a "Hollywood" hire and Hart knows it.
