Biggest problem Bammers had with Fulmer is he kicked their asses so many times. They just used that whole getting turned in thing.
Chicken and the egg argument. He beat them because they were down much of his tenure.....and they were down at least in part because of his role in turning them in.
There is little doubt that Fulmer was the beneficiary of a significantly weakened Bama for a period of time.
I wonder what would happen if Gruden went to another college team...I'm pretty sure everyone will be asking for Hart's head. I don't think Hart is that dumb to let him go anywhere else besides Tennessee for the college level.
I'd be more concerned about The Browns and Jimmy Haslam.
If good ole' Jimmy wants Gruden to the Browns and Gruden accepts, well, that's it.
BUT, I can easily see this scenario.
Haslam keeps the current HC for the Browns. Tells Gruden to go and get some college experience, new contacts, etc... and become the HC for TN. In 3 years, if the current HC at the Browns does not deliver, Gruden is basically UPSTREAMED to the Browns.

That might all be true, but with all that time away from the sidelines, who knows what his thoughts have been on the topic. There are merits both ways, but a good coach can entrench himself for a longer duration in college, than in the NFL. It is so hard to stay on top. Even Bellicheck can't do it.IMO if he has future plans to coach again in the NFL, he won't come to UT. He could probaly get any NFL HC job that will be open this year. He doesn't need us to land a job in the NFL. For some reason, I'm more concerned with the Eagles potential job opening. They have one of the best rosters in the NFL. So that COULD be the opportunity he's been looking for. I sure hope me and GRU don't share this idea. Nothing would make me happier than him coming to Knoxville and hopefully, retire from coaching as a Vol (10-15 years from now).
Oh yeah, it goes without saying Bama was down during that period but Fulmer even beat them the ONE year they won the SEC 99
