All I hope for is that if Dooley is let go that we are able to retain a few of our assistants. Graham, Pittman, and Hinshaw especially. Hopefully the next coach would keep them.

I think Pittman would be worth keeping, he seems to have done a great job. Can't complain with McKeefrey either although Gruden probably has his own guy in mind. Hinshaw maybe for the recruiting?

Edit, didn't realize we were talking about interims coaches... I was thinking staff retention.

No worries..we don't mind discussing members of the staff that are worth keeping like Graham or even Pittman(although I don't think Chucky would retain him or Hinshaw for that matter)...I trust his judgement..:salute:

That being said...he is mostly likely to retain Graham, but as I said, that's up to him.:salute:

I would rather that not be the case. As it stands Graham is viewed in a positive light by the fans. But the guy has only been a RB coach so far. Not sure I want him taking over the HC in an interim basis to see something tarnish what could be an up and coming career in coaching for the guy.

I think he is one of the top two coaches on staff right now.

Graham is the only one I would miss. You gotta remember, if Gruden comes think about the staff he might bring.

Yeah, I think Gruden has his own guys in mind for most positions. I say no more than 2 assistants will be retained, and one imo will be Graham.

I get that you're excited. I've been around here long enough to have seems dozens and dozens of "done deals" from "insiders" that ended up never being close to reality. Wait until things are done before you start chirping.
I understand what you saying. No matter what I hear, I'm going to be skeptical about it until there's a press conference where Gruden is being introduced as our head coach.

I agree. I like him myself. Just my opinion he is a little too new to coaching to take over head coaching duties so fast. Would prefer to keep him where he is right now and not have him make a mistake that negates what he has done to this point. Our fan base is a bit quick to judge right now it seems. Just think it would be advantageous to keep him where he is so that we can retain him next year and at least one position has some positive stability.

So any ideas about who Gruden would bring in for his OC job if he desires? I don't think it will be his brother Jay simply b/c of the opportunity he has to pursue a HC job..I can't think of a particular OC,so what are your thoughts?

If all happens as it is likely to happen, we are scarcely 10 days away from the end of the most embarrassing era in UT football history!

And it's only been a short era! Yet this down era is exactly why people, like the ones on the Arky board, will say they are better program. They never would have said this 5 years ago, or anytime before. It kills me how when one team goes down they think its just gonna stay that way. I guess they think they are a better program than bama too since they fell down to 3 and 4 wins while Arky was good. Everybody has the down times, what makes you elite is the ones that always have and always will come back.

As far as interim, as bad as I hate to say it, but Chaney has seniority and usually the interim is the guy that has been there the longest. Not AT ALL saying I think that is what is going to happen, but have heard that scenario a couple times from those smarter than I when it comes to this.

Chaney is the more realistic option....but I'm not nearly as down on Chaney as most. I think he is a good football coach. He is just not an SEC coordinator.

He keeps Chaney. He then tells Chaney he is going to sit there with a clipboard and take notes as Gruden calls all the offensive plays so that when Chaney gets a new job he won't call a pass play on freaking 3rd and 1.

Kind of like Dooley was for Saban, a clipboard carrier that posed 0 threat to his job security.

The heavy pocketed alumni actually like Chaney...............not sure why

I actually think Chaney has taken heat for things that will come out were "beyond his control", but agree no one seems to have anything bad to say about Chaney...at least those I know that matter.

Chaney should be comfortable with this since he already has done it under Kiffin.

Down from what # originally? How many were committed to come?

I mean it is painfully obvious Dooley is gone next year, probably in roughly 10 days. Hard to imagine recruits getting excited to visit given our performance the last couple years and the almost certainty they do not know for sure who their HC will be.

I can understand a recruit not wanting to spend one of his OVs on a school rumored to be firing their coach soon.

I think there's also a limit on how many OVs we can host per year. If so, I wonder if it's too crazy to suggest that, if someone big is in the works behind the scenes, our current staff could be told to not use too many of them up this week.

I understand why people believe Gruden wouldn't coach college but it's hilarious when you see people arguing about why he would be a bad hire.

Nobody knows if he would be successful at the college level but if you wouldn't be willing to give him a shot, you're crazy.

Agreed..I honestly can't see a down side to hiring Gruden.

Folks questioning his work ethic is absolutely absurd.

That Clow thing is most interesting. A week ago he was laughing at people saying Gruden's name. Now he is saying there is a chance.
