True.

I was thinking more of is there any interest to begin with, knowing what it would take to pull it off, and knowing if your willing to that. Specifics can be ironed out later.:)

I've recently heard there was interest back when....Mike Hamilton isn't here anymore. From a pretty solid source.

Ridiculous isnt it. Firing a coach after beating Alabama and SC or a combo of either one is just ridiculous.

This is what I don't understand. While there is a slightly better chance of hurling myself out of a space balloon at the speed of sound than us beating BOTH UA and USC minor, if it were to happen, how does it all play out?

It is somewhat rhetorical, but if anybody wants to offer any hypothesis, I would be interested.

The mutual interest is real. I've heard enough to be convinced of that.

This. When one "friend" says it its a rumor, when its coming from all directions it has legs. When people involved monetarily actually start to say names and put money on the table it's a negotiation. That's where it is right now, active talks between two parties with mutual interest. Haven't talked to anyone today but after last night I am more stoked than ever. If you we're in Copper Cellar west about 7:30 you may have seen me, could hardly contain my excitement.

I am so prone to saying things I shouldn't put of excitement but anyone saying this is not happening or that there is "no chance" are relying on their opinions and getting their hopes up in the past. Just like Randy Shannon, things can happen but we are closer right now to having a home run hire than any time in recent memory.....ever if you ask me!!!

Anything that is talked about before playing these next 2 games is just talk. If somehow we win there is no way in hell Dooley is fired. So acting like anything is a done deal is simply ridiculous.

Up until a week or so ago, I was getting conflicting reports. I'm hearing the same thing from several people now. That is why I'm in the Gruden thread now.

In the minuscule event we win both games, this thread would die. Dooley would not be fired.

There is something to do with him getting to a point where he can "no longer win 8 games" but knows right now that is the point it is definitely over regardless. If the talks with Gruden can reach an agreement I don't think beating just USCjr would save him.

I think MSU sealed the deal.

Finally found the thread. I was freaking out for a second. Do the Mods hate us? Do they work for ESPN?

Agree 100% but if somehow the stars aligned and we were to win the next two everything could change. The reason everyone is assuming moving forward is that no one credible inside or outside the AD think it is even a possibility.

Look at it this way.....If you were the AD, and had a chance for whatever reason to make the absolute dream hire....a real once in a lifetime hire, could you personally afford to pass it up no matter your personal preference. Would you want to be known as THAT GUY if the word got out you'd missed?

In that situation, nothing else matters when the window of opportunity is open.

Flame away, but no one is "acting" like it is a done deal. Some KNOW and some don't. There are a few people on here that know and we aren't acting. We are KNOWING.

Let's just assume for argument sake that Gruden would be available for a certain price, UT will be competing with 3-4 other big name schools (i.e. Ark, Aub, and possibly other UT) and at least 2-3 NFL openings, which could include Cowboys, and I guarantee whatever we are willing to pay him Jerry Jones can easily match without blinking.

I just think Gruden is an absolute pipe dream and that we would be better off discussing serious candidates for the job.

I think you underestimate the fact that his wife was a cheerleader at UT.

I don't know if this has been posted yet but I just saw it on coachingsearch.com.

Jon Gruden: Peyton Manning's performance on MNF was legendary, but Jon Gruden also stuck out to me last night. If you don't think Gruden had the itch to coach last night, you're crazy. He was dying to compete. I got to believe that Gruden woke up this morning thinking that it's time for him to get back in the coaching profession.

Knowing that they "want" someone and actually getting someone is not "Knowing" its gonna happen.

We have 2 games against top 10 teams coming up.

What is underestimated is the timing. You want to avoid going up against the other schools. You to strike before they are in the game.
