Extension a possibility?

"I think Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart is not convinced that the wisest move for the program would be to fire Dooley after just three seasons. I'm sure Hart has been in contact with all the big money people at Tennessee as well as the chancellor and is waiting to see how this season plays out. I do believe that if the Vols lose one of their final four games that Hart will make a move. But it could go either way if they win out and finish 7-5. Much of it will depend on who the Vols think they can get and who's realistically interested in coming to Tennessee. A lot of variables will be at play. The other thing to consider is that if Hart does bring Dooley back, it doesn't make sense to bring him back as a lame-duck coach of sorts. Recruiting would be a nightmare. So you almost think that Hart would need to give Dooley some type of extension if he does indeed retain him. It will be an interesting November on Rocky Top."

I have been sying all season you either have to fire him or give him an extension at end of season. No way he can recruit with only 3 years remaining on exsisiting contract.

IMO based on my info, Hart and Cheek are doing what they have been told to do on this matter. The poor performance of the team yesterday makes their role more difficult to be silent during this time because the fans will turn up the heat.

I am still confident in the info I have knowledge of.

GmanTN....

What info is that?

Something in the media would have been leaked by now. Secrets are impossible to keep in athletics...JMO!

some media are begining to speak up

As a result of the unknown from Hart, there is really nothing new in regards to the GQ's only choice for coach, Jon Gruden. That doesn't mean Gruden's interest level or anything has changed, but it kind of has a holding pattern feel at this point. Nonetheless, and while it's impossible to tell because Gruden isn't publicly saying anything specific in regards to the Tennessee job, he does seem to have legitimate interest in the job and there are those close to Gruden who continue to believe that if a change is made and Tennessee has a competitive offer sheet (read: greater than $5 million), it might be too much for Gruden to pass up. There are others who know Gruden who don't think he would come to the college game. And others who believe if somehow he did end up at Tennessee, then his staff would have a Vol feel to it.

The campus would erupt exponentially worse than Kiffin leaving if Dooley got an extension. I don't think Low is saying it will happen or even likely to happen. He is saying if Dooley is retained it would kill recruiting without an extension.

I think it solidifies Dooley 100% being out. No way Hart can endure the perfect storm an extension would bring on, nor can he afford the 5-7 season coming our way next year if Dooley stays.

I will say this too, every player projected to go in the first 3 rounds is gone if Dooley stays. 100% sure if that, even more so after yesterday.

This is just stupid talk..... If he gave cdd an extension u would have to call out the Nat guard to protect all of them.. every vol fan in the world would march on the hill....

I only have one "source" but he is very well connected ( boosters and AD ). Haven't talked to him since before the season started so no new news here but I did ask him if Dooley would be retained and he said it all comes down to attendance. He then went on to explain how much money was lost for every 10k empty seats. He said if the seats aren't being filled, then a change would be made. I don't think he was very far off.

Could Low just be dropping a king size Serta into the inferno and boosting page hits with this one?

We have a lame duck coach and could have lame duck players if something is not announced soon

Hart would be stupid to keep Dooley. No assistant worth a damn would come here without a big buyout, if they would even come at all. We would have to buy out Sunseri plus the secondary coach this year, and then buy out Dooley and whoever would be the new assistants next year. It would be the dumbest move Hart could make.

That would be an absolute debacle!!! Dooley has had almost three years and is still making the same pee wee level mistakes; time-outs, 12 men on the field, 10 men on the field, recruiting is average, defense is horrific, horrific record. Not to mention that fan apathy is at an all-time high and getting worse with every day that Dooley is still at the helm.

The Dooley experiment has been a monumental mistake and will only get worse. There is no evidence that Dooley will be a winner in the SEC or any other conference for that matter.

Cheeks, Hart, Dooley , Sal needs to be fired right now. Get rid of the Fla,Bama and Saban flavor out of Tn mouth. Tn has come to be one big embarrassment . It needs to end today.

How ironic would it be playing Oregon with a lame-duck coach? BTW Oregon 167 UT 14 Take the over.

I believe it......... with the turn out yeasterday, I can't see Hart doing anything but removing Dookey...

He can change the whole problem with one hire

and we know who that is
