off topic, but....I can def see C. Patterson going into draft....he's just one of those electrifying players that NFL scouts love. Could you imagine him running that quick screen set w Peyton in Denver?

Why would Gruden want to wait so long to be announced the next head coach. December, January time frame? Is he not concerned at all about what that would do to the recruiting process?

Same thing if Dooley is kept. You know recruits are hearing and reading what is being said. Cant help next years recruiting class with all this uncertainty.

Kiffin pulled together a top 10 class in 2 months time. I'm sure Gruden and an all-star staff could do the same in 1 month. Insiders have said Gruden isn't going to announce anything in respect to the current UT coaches. Once they are let go, it's on.

While I don't agree with Fulmer as AD, I definitely agree with the sentiment.

We need some UT blood in here.

To be honest though, I think that Hart wants to do that, and if he gets Gruden here (or at least doesn't stand in the way), then I will support him moving forward.

Yeah I know it is a little knee jerk... I would not want Fulmer as long term... but o well you got the idea

So it seems that after an initial flurry of contract and money talk things have quieted down. Seems to me this can be one of two things; Lack of interest/understanding and parting of ways, or agreement and not much left to discuss.

If talks with Gruden had fallen apart I suspect we would be hearing rumors of other coaches. You will recall in most other coaching searches (here and abroad) there are multiple running rumors about multiple coaches at any given time. This whole thing has been very unique in that talk has focused solely on Gruden.

Also consider that Gruden likely wants to finish the season at MNF.

That leaves two outcomes to this thing I believe.
1. Dooley will be kept or at the very least a decision has not yet been made to go in other directions.
2. This Gruden thing is close to actually happening.

The kick in the balls is that both of these scenarios will look exactly the same up through December. I think the worst thing that could happen is for Dooley to be terminated during the season which would suggest a full blown coaching search. Its going to be a long month.

Gruden is not the problem...........the problem is we have a coach..."Dooley",

The problem is HART not announcing a decision, once this is done and ball starts rolling... things will move fast

I agree, I just don't think we can/should wait till after a possible bowl game to announce anything.

We have confused our Brand and watered it down with Saban, bama, Florida and whatever until we have lost Tennessee.... I know this is unpopular on this board... but I would hire Fulmer as Interm AD until we could find someone with a real Tennessee connection.....

Hire Gruden (who is connected to J major's) and start rebuilding the Tennessee brand

You know your making too much sense don't you ? That's one thing that's not allowed on VN . Until the trash gets taken out Dooley,Cheeks etc... Tn football will be garbage.

I would say that if he is projected in the 1st, he will choose to go.

Hunter, I think, will go no matter where he is projected. He won't go far past the end of the first round anyways simply because the WR position is not that deep this year.

I doubt Payton goes anywhere. He's very tight with Brees and the city, and Brees is locked in to the Saints for the next 9 more years.

I tend to agree...I don't think that's what the Saint's fans had in mind with the "free Sean Peyton" campaign, team will probably just give him a nice raise....his great value to that organization was amplified this season

Not that I know anything but it might have something to do with the Grus contract and the how/when of it's early termination.
Status quo in the sanctification process. IMO.

I could see him going too but if Gruden comes in he could convince Patterson to stick around one more year to work on his route running and make himself a 1st round draft pick and learn from his NFL experience.

I missed the interim in your post. Short term I would be ok with. I am just not sure about his business and administrative capability for the long term, but I do think he could rally the administration, alumni, and boosters.

Solid post.......... I am banking on number 2

Sad to say, but you're correct..Good thing Gruden will be here SOON to change that.
