Official Jon Gruden Thread V

I'm most likely in the minority on this one and I will take bashing.
If given the choice of going through another season of Dooley or hiring Petrino, I'm taking Petrino every time.
I agree and I'll raise you one. I don't care what the football coach does on his free time so long as it does not violate NCAA rules and is not a felony. If the guy can recruit and win, or at least hire coaches who can recruit and win, then I am for him.

I think it's about time to put this thread out of its misery.

I like the idea of a generic "Head Coach Search" thread. It's clear the Gruden thing has run its course.

RIP, Hopes for Chuckie.

Instead of killing a thread many enjoy, it would be much easier if you just leave and not post in it. Thanks bye

My top 5 is 1. Gruden 2. Peterson 3.paterson 4. Strong and 5. Mullen I think we have a chance to get one of them as coach. Still hoping for Gruden.

I am right there with you, brother!

Who has the power to remove the BOT?
They get a six year term unless they move residences, don't show up for meetings or violate their ethics rules. My guess is that the problem trustees were appointed by Bredesen so it could take another 4 years to cycle through them all because Democrat appointees are not going to give up a power position when they know they will be replaced with a Republican. Right now, higher ed. is about the only thing the Democrats have much sway over in state government and that is thanks to residual appointees. I guess the legislature could change the law concerning removal of BOT members but you're injecting a lot of politics into changing football coaches.

Here is my coaching list...sure to be followed with much ridicule.

1. Gruden
2. Gruden
3. Gruden
4. Gruden
5. Gruden
(Go all in numerous times to try and pull him to UT)

6. Bob Stoops
(if his buyout could be negotiated--the guy needs a change of venue...he has hit the wall at OU...a fresh start could do him wonders)

7. Fulmer
(let the egg throwing begin...it worked for K-State...Give Phil a 3-5 year contract and negotiate a low buyout and see if he can recapture some fire)

8. Cut
(The guy can coach and has disciplined teams. If he hired some guys around him to recruit I believe he would get more out of the players than most could. I think he could keep us in the SEC East race consistently and compete for SEC titles occasionally)

9. Strong
(The guy can recruit...plain and simple...not sure if he can coach but he is a risk that may be worth taking because he would at least upgrade our talent level)

Absolutely NOTs
Petrino (no character)
Mullen (I don't want a spread offense)
Tuberville (probably a better coach than Cut/Fulmer but not the ties to the program)

I got no problem what so ever with Fulmer coming back I wish they had never fired him to begin with I think he could get thee job done again after one year he would have the fire going and the seats full

Ok, Doyle and some others are voting yes to Petrino. If Dooley is gone for sure where does Petrino fall on your list?

I appreciate the info skeeter brings, but I don't agree with just about anything he has posted in the last 24 hours. Us killing Vandy? Going 7-5 and playing SC in a bowl game? Put down the crack pipe my man. We'll truly be fortunate to win 2 out of 3 in the coming weeks, and honestly I don't see it happening.

And Dooley is most certainly gone at the end of this year, once you consider how things will go down once we lose the next one of these games, which is happening.

My concerns with Fulmer would be the fan base...would we unite or remain divided...so many wanted him gone...however, I would think a large percentage of those that wanted him gone feel differently after the stretch we have had without him.

Respect your opinion but I weep for you.

Overrated coach, dirtbag of a guy who will only bring long term problems and will run at the chance to make more money somewhere else. Ain't worth it. We made almost the exact same mistake with Kiffin, only it was a cheaper mistake. Let's not do it again.
