Official Jon Gruden Thread VI

Purely speculation on my part, but I see this as a good thing actually. That is if you want Gruden.

I have been thinking this too. We are in no rush perhaps because we aren't competing with other SEC schools trying to find a coach....we already have ours perhaps....

Ainge saying no Gruden for sure and no presser until the end of season to officially fire Dooley.

All of that is exactly what I expected from UT. I also expected that nothing was done with Gruden and that because no other names had been talked about, that most likely UT had not even begun a search for a coach.

Excellent point.

I really hadn't thought of it that way. Gruden or not that would make sense.

We occasionaly need to be reminded, these guys are not working on our schedule. We've known a timeline for all of this since after the MSU game. I don't know why they haven't made an announcement yet, but it still all coincides with the timeline I was given from the beginning. You can be sure somebody involved has a very good reason for the way this is proceeding. I know how it ends up....everything else is just conjecture at this point.

I know it is frustrating, but I've heard nothing that makes me believe anything will happen until after UK. Anything could happen, but that's what I've been told.

Same goes for the Gruden info. Nothing has changed.
Gruden info aside, not sure why a statement of some sort hasn't been made. Giving UT fans the middle finger as far as I'm concerned. Smacks of arrogance not to even come out and say 'we'll evaluate after the regular season.'

Dave Hart doing nothing to dissuade my opinion that he is an a$$.

You'd be wrong in thinking that

Its good to believe it, but I feel sick because I think I know differently.

I think they truly were going to keep Dooley if he won out in November. I really really believe UT has done nothing to secure a new coach, let alone Gruden and that Auburn, Arkansas, and Kentucky got the jump on us.

I hate to say it, but I now believe it more than ever before.

Agree, unless it's at the request of the next coach or unless it's thought to be in the best interest of the program to wait until the ink is dry on a deal for the next coach.

This is interesting. If Gruden is indeed the guy and wishes to finish out this year in the booth, it makes sense to wait. Keep in mind however that the last night of MNF is Dec. 22. That would lineup with him being announced after a bowl game (if there is one). In the meantime, he doesn't have to deal with a ton of questions, has time to put together a staff, and when Dec. 23 or the days after roll around, him and his staff will be ready to hit the recruiting trail. This also maintains the integrity of the hire because it will appear as though he wasn't courted while the current head coach was in place.

I see the advantages of saying nothing. Its much easier to do things behind the scenes for potential coaches who have jobs currently. You remember the Petrino to Auburn fiasco?

You'll have to take that up with the Hart. I have no opinion on it based on what I've been told. It really hasn't mattered to me for a few weeks.

How 'bout this. "Ainge, if you will cool it with the Gruden push, I'll make sure you are one of the first to know, when the time comes. Otherwise, you are cut-off."

Yes?

Hhearing a lot of Charlie Strong and Gary Patterson chatter from my buddies in Knoxville today. I believe they are the top two candidates.

Nothing concrete though.

Maybe, unless he knows that the next coach will make the fans forget about these last several weeks.

Of course it seems absolutely mind boggling that they would not have said something by now. There are a couple of reasonable explanations. One of which is that they are putting the full-court press on Gruden and do not want to risk messing it up, or maybe they even have a framework in place for his hiring.

An optimist would definitely say that it seems like exactly what Boro and OV and the other folks were saying is taking place.

I could be wrong, but I dont think media members, who sort of rely on integrity, will out and out lie to cover the university.

It's one thing to "not talk about Gruden" anymore. Its a whole other thing to flat out say to fans "give it up, he aint coming here".

If you believed originally that Ainge had good sources when he began saying Gruden was coming, why then would you believe that his sources now say "no way"?
