Official Jon Gruden Thread VI

You know, from an objective point of view....despite Ainge and others denial, I honestly can see the plausibility of Gruden taking the job where he'd turn most others down.

Not just his TN connections, but this past year he did seem to be "hanging around the punch bowl" a little bit, with his appearance at the coaching clinic....meeting with Dooley for several hours, talking X's and O's. Mentioning in the interview that he'd be interested in coaching again (said he just loves it), and even left open the prospect of coaching in college, if the RIGHT opportunity presented itself...hint, hint.

His skit on Knoxville with the Corona ad (could have chosen dozens of others, more "sexy" than UT).

Plus, in his pre-draft QB coaching videos, he would often use Peyton Manning as a reference to judge these QB prospects by. He kept calling him "The Sheriff." He really likes Peyton....who just so happens to be pitching for us. For this last reason, alone....I'm inclined to like our chances.

I like to kid around on here and agree with sound posts...but in all seriousness, I believe and have believed the whole concept to be totally plausible...and for all the reasons you mentioned above.

When Ainge had that week long Gruden campaign, he kept saying over and over how Gruden would approach him in the Jets locker room and completely bypass everything but TN Football conversation.

I love it and I'm going to go down with the ship if it sinks...because I'm a total believer!!

There, I feel better now that I said it. Actually, I do feel better.

He is a pipe dream. That's why I hesitated to mention his name.

He is being pitched though, fwiw. Our $$ guys are going to shoot for the stars. What does it hurt.
Yeah....I was scoffing at the idea of Saban leaving the Dolphins (the owner really liked him) for Bama, of all places. The inbred capital of the world.

I am glad they are at least asking.

I'm sorry but the people that let Phil go after SC and also hired Dooley are still a part of this search. We may be missing Mike Hamilton but I doubt he'd have made those moves without their blessing. Best i can tell is they've gotten wiser at this if the rumors are true but that doesn't mean they're perfect.

Well, I guess. But saying Gruden got his start in college is a stretch. He was a grad assistant. That's like saying he got his start in college because he went to college :)

Being a grad assistant at UT is not the only college coaching position Gruden has held.
He got his start as a coach in college.
He got his start as a head coach in the pros.

Hamilton was a road block though, people didn't want to work under him, therefore the people in charge of the search had to settle.

Yeah, I know. But I think when you say "he got his start in college", you automatically think head coaching start.
