I'm sorry but the people that let Phil go after SC and also hired Dooley are still a part of this search. We may be missing Mike Hamilton but I doubt he'd have made those moves without their blessing. Best i can tell is they've gotten wiser at this if the rumors are true but that doesn't mean they're perfect.
Hamilton sold them on a name. Everyone wanted a "NAME" to help salvage our recruiting class. This alone is why Hamilton overlooked Sumlin, in favor of Dooley.

Sumlin, at the time, was not a BIG name coach. Dooley wasn't either, but his last name was recognizable and his connections to Saban and the SEC, is why Hamilton loverlooked the most critical component of any hire....in any profession. Successful history at the position.

Dooley didn't have it. Nor did Cutcliff. Sumlin did. That is who Hamilton should have hired, and that's who I was hoping for at that point in time (wanted Patterson or Willingham, but I knew Hamilton was too cheap to make them a serious offer).

Never have I came here claiming to have a source and I will never tell where I got this info but its Gruden. Dooley will be fired following the Vanderbilt game should we lose or after Kentucky should we win the Vandy game. Gruden has been on board for a few weeks now and all the Heart not wanting to fire Dooley was and is just a smoke screen.

FWIW, I had a friend tell me he is being told 5 years, 40 million and a small buyout after 3 years.

At $8M a year he'd eclipse the highest paid college coach by almost $3M. That's likely way higher than what they're offering.

My guess is it's closer to $6M with a hefty retention bonus at the end of four or five years.

Hamilton was a road block though, people didn't want to work under him, therefore the people in charge of the search had to settle.

If that was true they had plenty of reasons to can him before we did. MH made a number of blunders before let go.

Smart people learn from their mistakes and you don't get rich being dumb. That said IMO our big boosters have been partly culpable for some of the failures in the past IMO.

I want to know what a gator fan thinks if we hire Gruden.

Honestly? It is what it is. Sure he has name recognition with recruits, but college isn't the NFL from the time you are allowed to spend with the kids and the limitations that are placed on the coach.

I'd be more worried if you hired Petrino. he's the one that would worry me the most.

The crazy thing is I have had some Vol fans say "If we get gruden, we'll own Florida." I tend to think that either way, Florida will be just fine. You might beat us, but to say you will own us is dishonest.

I think Gruden would be gone in less than 5 years anyways. The NFL is in his blood. he's an NFL coach.
