OV, Boro, Jay

I have not had the time to catch up on todays events so if I am behind on the proceedings I apologize. I had the pleasure of a conversation today with a gentleman who if not an insider is very, very close. His information regarding Coach Gruden reflected most of everything you gentlemen have recited on here time and time again. I have known him a very long time and he is about as VFL as they come and has always been spot on and very conservative with his information. Hat's off fella's. Thanks for the positive outlook the past several weeks. I think the next several years are going to be fun in Neyland to say the least. :hi:

Yeah, I know. But I think when you say "he got his start in college", you automatically think head coaching start.

Not necessarily, and the point would still remain that you left out some key information when you said he was a GA and made the joke about him starting in college "because he went to college."

Honestly? It is what it is. Sure he has name recognition with recruits, but college isn't the NFL from the time you are allowed to spend with the kids and the limitations that are placed on the coach.

I'd be more worried if you hired Petrino. he's the one that would worry me the most.

The crazy thing is I have had some Vol fans say "If we get gruden, we'll own Florida." I tend to think that either way, Florida will be just fine. You might beat us, but to say you will own us is dishonest.

I think Gruden would be gone in less than 5 years anyways. The NFL is in his blood. he's an NFL coach.
Gotta love trash talkers! :loco:

C'mon man, while Petrino is legit on Offense, Gruden would field a team like no other in College Football think USC West. In their hayday they smacked around EVERYBODY. Gruden would prob get Raheem Morris for a DC job and are u kidding me that's sick. UT and UF would be a hell of a rivalry again.

Then I want Petrino!!!!!!

Kidding. But nice post...

If that was true they had plenty of reasons to can him before we did. MH made a number of blunders before let go.

Smart people learn from their mistakes and you don't get rich being dumb. That said IMO our big boosters have been partly culpable for some of the failures in the past IMO.

you're probably right, but their choices were restricted due to Hamilton i imagine.

That deal would make more sense,IMO.

Recruiting disaster. I don't know how people can't see that.

Why would Ainge be covering up, he'd be risking listeners if Gruden was a lock

Because he, is getting pressure from the university to keep his mouth shut, and maybe from the boosters as well, he did say he was friends with alot of them, and he did say some people from the AD listen to tsr.. just my thought..

At $8M a year he'd eclipse the highest paid college coach by almost $3M. That's likely way higher than what they're offering.

My guess is it's closer to $6M with a hefty retention bonus at the end of four or five years.
I don't even think it will be that high. Belichick only makes about $7mill/yr. I did a little research (easy to Google it up), and the average coaching salary in the NFL is about $2.5mill/yr. I was very surprised by that. I figured it would be above 4mill. Even at $5mill, Gruden would be among the top third of the highest paid coaches in the NFL.

Seeing that he was fired at his last job and has been out a few years, I doubt a team would offer him more than $6mill. So, between $5-5.5mill would sound about right. If he wanted to bring his brother along, Jay, as OC and Assistant HC, then that would likely cost $1mill, easily.

Cool. We'll be waiting for it.

Well there's no time like the present::)

Absolutely. He's not the same coach he was...even though he already had a rep for being a dirt bag before the scandal.

Lots of kids parents would refuse to let their kids play for him, wouldn't even let him in their living room, etc. Then you are talking about a guy who now has to preach integrity and doing things right, on AND off the field.

His rep is so damaged, kids will tune him out and we'd be getting into a lot of trouble cause the main role model for them can't keep his own nose clean.

Petrino, before the scandal would make some sense. But he'd be a disaster now.
