Are you aware that Cuonzo Martin coaches at UT for several months with only a MOU? I believe someone else said Dooley did also. It was the basis for them to get paid until the contract was signed. I would say they had a significant legal effect.

Unless you're trying to argue that deals never fall through after this phase in the process, that anecdote really isn't relevant to what I said.

It could be correct though, sort of.

There's a reason I used the qualifying term "generally." There are always exceptions and a document that is titled "memorandum of understanding" could be treated as a temporary contract.

"Legal effect" would indicate to me that the parties were bound to the agreement and it would be enforceable in court. Like I said, that's possible, but much less certain, especially with a preliminary document like that. Sounds like UT and Cuonzo or Dooley could have been taking a few things on faith.

Hence, why they continued on to draft the final document.

I did not realize how backward Arkansas fans are until I saw some of the ignorant information posted on that thread. They must not realize that Knoxville actually hosted a World's Fair and has the busiest interstate system in the country. They act like we do not know who is working with Gruden to get him to UT. I am just happy that they are underestimating the situation because they will be wondering what happened when Gruden starts sining Rocky Top with a few of his closest friends.
