I'm not saying I want Fulmer back, but if all 3 would agree to it (which would never happen because of Cut) I would take Fulmer HC, Chavis DC, and Cut OC over:

1. Al Golden
2. Smart
3. Cut as HC
4. Chavis as HC
and probably a few others.

Evol, you mentioned Ainge was putting that out as a smoke screen. Non sarcastic question, why? I don't understand the smoke screen theory. Who does this benefit? Again, honest question, not being sarcastic or calling you out.

Why wouldn't have we fired him by now and get a jump on AU, Ark, and UK? Everyone said this was the year, now we're looking up at a (doubtful) 6 win season. There's no way Hart's stupid enough to wait till the end of the year to start a search when he knows DD can't get it done. We're getting killed in recruiting and next year's schedule will only make it worse. There HAS to be someone on the hook. I'm guessing that it's King Jon.

Al Golden makes no sense.

He built up Temple but he's been crappy at Miami. There are other coaches that have built up crappy programs that still haven't had the opportunity to showcase themselves at a bigger program. We know what Golden can do at a bigger program and it appears to be nothing. I like him and everything but if he can't win in the ACC at Miami, I don't see why he would win here.

If that were to happen, enjoy your spacious seats at Neyland with plenty of leg room for added comfort. Bad thing for the few hundred people in the upper deck, they would have to walk down the ramp to get a drink and a hot dog.

I would still take it over the list I mentioned that you didn't quote. My point being that hiring anyone on that list and we would essentially be going backwards. At least we won every year the trio was in Knoxville.

Gruden is willing to come if he is the highest paid coach in the country but is only willing to sign a contract with zero buyout if he goes to the NFL and his brother Jay is his coach in waiting.


Would we be upset if hart said thanks but not thanks to that???

No but it doesn't matter because that would never happen.

Nobody would ever request someone to be a coach in waiting without ever having coached at the school.

Actually I'm not the one who came up with the smoke screen theory. I just said that if Ainge is seriously reporting that Chavis is a candidate then I'm more inclined to believe Ainge is in fact making stuff up.

But the reason people are saying he is putting up a smoke screen is because he was very outspoken about Gruden to Knoxville, but has recently started saying there is no chance of that happening. The theory is the powers at be told him to put a muzzle on it, so he is being a good soldier and doing just that.

I'm not saying I believe it or not, but thats the theory.

We can only hope so. It is the only acceptable explanation given the two things you mentioned: (1) searching for a replacement and (2) recruiting. Hart seems awfully content to watch these things supposedly fall apart without showing much concern. He is either one he!! of a poker player or he is sitting on a royal flush.

Hart would likely lose his job if that happened, Hart isn't the guy that will make that decision, nor will he pay for it. Money wise that is.

I would be ok with no buyout to the NFL if he is ok with no buyout if he flops at UT. Have to show that he doesnt' have all the power in this thing. I think also that the Miami rumors may have been his way of saying no with out having to say no, if you follow me on that.

I guess I didn't completely answer your question. Supposedly it benefits Gruden and the University because neither wants to have to answer questions about the situation right now. Dooley is still the coach and it would make both parties look bad if they were reaching an agreement before Dooley had been formally fired. But thats about all I can gather from it. Others on here could probably tell you more.

Yeah, the zero buyout thing wouldn't make sense at all. We could hire Gruden today with a 5 million dollar buyout and tomorrow 3 NFL teams would be willing to pay the 5 million to get him as a coach.

Since Hart pushed Sal on Dooley, I think it is safe to say the way this season has been on defense. Hart will not be the one making this hire, just the one who will get the credit for it.

Yes, yes, and some more yes. We would get Jon Gruden for as long as he wants to stay and then transition to Jay Gruden who will be a NFL head coach. I'm okay with that. Especially if they keep Graham and bring Tee back to UT. Hells yeah!

I think Ainge is confusing his "wants" with his "predictions." I am sure he has a special respect for Cut given the way that Cut resurrected Ainge's career.

Hope you're right. Lot's of different stories on Hart and his position. I hope the wait is worth it when the news finally comes out.

I agree if the Jay is part of the deal. If he isn't and Jon could leave whenever he chooses without any consequence I don't know but lean toward saying no dice. It does make me not totally squash the notion that tenn has cooled on gruden. We don't know what he might be asking for .
