Jason La Canfora on NFL.com says that he believes that Jon Gruden is more interested in the Tennessee job than any NFL opening. He was on 106.7 in DC this morning.

Thanks. Boom!

By the way, this guy is beyond on point as a reporter. He took no BS from the Redskins during his time at The Washington Post, and took over for Schefter when he left the NFL Network for ESPN. He knows his stuff.

My Gruden % meter is creeping up. Was at 80% yesterday. Today I'm around 90%.

If a deal were reached would we see an announcement about Dooley shortly there after? Or would we most likely stick to the KY timeline -

I only ask b/c it would seem to me that if having a coach is truly the hold up then nothing would be concrete until that point right?

I have to believe that if Gruden has decided or is leaning to choosing Tennessee over an NFL gig, we won't let that opportunity slip away.

I guess Tennessee has fooled me before, but I really think if he is on board, we will make it happen.

I agree............I guess being in business where deals are done that everyday is a new day......good and bad.

There is nothing concrete at this point, they are working on it, but like I say there is a lot of moving parts here that complicate Gruden more than anybody out there.

I'm cautiously optimistic this thing is getting done.

Let me add this caviat: We only want him if he is 100% onboard.

The money isn't the issue then, it's all up to the amount of control and admin issues I guess if above comment is true.

Quick question?
If Gruden deal is done and ready to go why not fire Dooley now and move on with it so we can announce this at the end of the season as quick as possible for recruiting purposes. As well as trying to keep Hunter and Bray...Just wondering. Yes, the longer we wait the longer he won't have to comment, but won't he have to eventually anways.
So what if he wants to finish out MNF if this is true...Just to be able to send out his staff and say sorry the HC couldn't be here he is working for ESPN on MNF now, would certainly sell to some kids, maybe not parents but certainly to kids. Just food for thought and something to discuss.

Having someone like La Canfora talking about this finally has me convinced. He doesn't throw stuff out there to see if it sticks-he paid his dues as a beat reporter for years in DC. He's old school.

It is discussion worthy, but if it is Gruden, we are on his timetable. I can think of several reasons (hell, they may be contractual) that he doesn't want the cat out of the bag.

Furthermore, the pub will be unbelievable when it happens. I don't think he will have any problems with landing a top 10 recruiting class in a limited amount of time.

For a couple reasons.

1. Everyone is hoping that this team can make a bowl game. We need the practices and the revenue.

2. Gruden wants his interest in the Tennessee position to not be the reason Dooley was/is fired. The only fair way to evaluate Dooley is to give him every opportunity to prove/not prove himself. So far the plan is playing out like many thought, Dooley would coach himself out of the job and make this a much easier transition.

3. Gruden wants to finish out his MNF tenure with as little "job drama" as possible. The longer Dooley is in his post at TN the longer he doesn't have to answer questions about where he will coach or if he will take the job.

He won't be in the UT coaches offices working until after his MNF commitment is over.

I am believing the information I've heard that he will be announced as our next head coach the week of his last broadcasts.

In related news, Arkansas police have closed all high bridges and access to firearms following this report.

I haven't had time to track all this mess. It sounds like you believe there's a good shot?

What's your take on the whole - Gruden won't take a job until its available arguement?

If true wouldn't it be in UT's best interest to pull the trigger on dooley rather than wait?

I guess I am just aprehensive that if he really felt that way then there is no way he would be in negotiation at this point...

Could the possibility of the Gruden to UT date bring 12/17/12 have anything to do with that being the MNF game in Nashville?

Profootballtalk's article on his potential interest in the Eagles job last week mentioned that the rumors about him going back to the NFL could cause a conflict in how he covers teams for MNF. That conflict does not exist if he accepts the TN job, and does it soon. It would relieve the pressure he will face if the Chargers and Eagles keep losing. He would be free to finish out his season on MNF without worrying about other teams questioning his motives during production meetings.

Good point. Just a thought I had. I'll take it whenever as long as we get him! What about Bray and Hunter enrolling in Spring Semester though? When is decision deadline for them to go pro or stay in school?
