Official Jon Gruden Thread VII

Here are my honest Grudenite thoughts:
1. The news got out way earlier than was intended.
2. The only way to keep Gruden from having to answer direct questions about the job is to retain Dooley.
3. The only way to keep Petrino or any sitting coach from publicly telling UT "no" (even if they weren't approached) is to keep Dooley.
4. If it is Gruden we are on his announcement time table...which means it makes sense to keep Dooley.
5. I think Gruden has given a list of demands, and that those have been answered with "yes"

These are my thoughts on the timing, and what has happened to this point.

I could be wrong....but I don't think I am.

I hope you ran this by Lurtz before posting.

I can dig it!

But you are not thinking about the other two variables.

Letting Dooley coach out the season to give him a full 3 years to prove/not prove himself.

Hope we make a bowl.

And wanting to distance himself from the Dooley firing.

If Dooley isn't going to be fired till the end of the season (which has always been the plan) then Gruden/TN knew that wouldn't take place till the end of November.

They aren't going to turn around the next week and hire Gruden because that would portray that Gruden helped force Dooley out.

They want a realistic gap. And what better way to announce then to coincide it with his last week on MNF three weeks after Dooley is canned?

It is too hard for us to wait. We have no patience and believe there is too much time in between no and then to get heartbroken, again. We are too afraid to buy in this far out. IMO is why we have many who do not believe this is possible. I though have been alll in since GRUDEN II. KEEP THE FAITH AND "INSIDERS" KEEP THE INFO COMING!

How's this any different than Lovie Smith? Randy Shannon? Austin Nichols?

I want to believe! But we've been burned so many times here.

For a couple reasons.

1. Everyone is hoping that this team can make a bowl game. We need the practices and the revenue.

2. Gruden wants his interest in the Tennessee position to not be the reason Dooley was/is fired. The only fair way to evaluate Dooley is to give him every opportunity to prove/not prove himself. So far the plan is playing out like many thought, Dooley would coach himself out of the job and make this a much easier transition.

3. Gruden wants to finish out his MNF tenure with as little "job drama" as possible. The longer Dooley is in his post at TN the longer he doesn't have to answer questions about where he will coach or if he will take the job.

He won't be in the UT coaches offices working until after his MNF commitment is over.

I am believing the information I've heard that he will be announced as our next head coach the week of his last broadcasts.

Notwithstanding the supposed media frenzy if Gruden were hired now, he can still finish out MNF! Soo many people on here keep saying over and over that Gruden wants to finish out MNF as a basis for not announcing him as HC of the Vols if in fact an agreement has been reached.

I want Gruden here yesterday however I do not believe that the MNF deal has any merit whatsoever!

If Gruden was announced today as the next HC of the Vols today he would have a press conference and tell the world his plans for the Vols and his intention to honor his commitment to MNF this year. UT could have interim HC until Gruden completes MNF.

Great PR. The HC completing his commitment and obligation to MNF even though he could leave MNF. So I think that the statements about the MNF are wishful thinking!

Frankly based upon everything I have read here for the last few weeks points to the fact that UT and Gruden are trying to reach a deal but that a deal has not been agreed to by both parties. Perhaps the parties are close but I do believe that if a deal had been reached then there would have been an announcement about Dooley and Gruden!

Also, let's not lose sight of the fact...

"it's all ball-bearings these days". Fletch. :)

Great news this morning! Gruden MMXII

Profootballtalk's article on his potential interest in the Eagles job last week mentioned that the rumors about him going back to the NFL could cause a conflict in how he covers teams for MNF. That conflict does not exist if he accepts the TN job, and does it soon. It would relieve the pressure he will face if the Chargers and Eagles keep losing. He would be free to finish out his season on MNF without worrying about other teams questioning his motives during production meetings.

This is a good point. However, I would think hes only going to get a few questions unless there is smoke around something. "He Jon, you goin to the Eagles?", "No.", "well ok then." Its easy to deny because its true.

Currently if he gets any questions about UT its going to be "What job? Tennessee has a coach." He may not want to be put into the position that Saban was, having to deny everything.

It may be contractual as well as mentioned above.

Feel like if we lose to Vandy Satuday, then we won't be eligible for a bowl game and the announcement could be made Sunday or Monday.

Grudenville, Is this place for real? That's got to be the greatest troll site ever. Which ever one of you guys put that together is awesome. :hi: Nice one. Had me going for a second. :)

I don't think so. The person that posted it has over 500 posts.

I don't post there, just lurking.

To clarify? They are posting the same thing about Gruden to Ark. or that LaCanfora said that about Gruden/UT?

Our Duckman visitor put it together and that is the temp name. Official pig site banned all Gruden threads so they had a migration to their new sty.

But then Gruden would be directly linked to the firing of Dooley and it would look very unprofessional on his part. You are forgetting that key component.

This is not on the fans timeline or even TN's timeline.

That's what I keep hearing from my D.C. friends. Me likey!!!!!

I work in DC - know people who run around in the same circles as JLC and remember him from the Post.
If he said it, he believes it, probably because he's picked it up along the way from his NFL sources.

The exact comment is:
Gruden, I think in the end, maybe the University of Tennessee. I don't see an NFL job opening up thatwould appeal to him and I think the Tennessee job, if anything, University of Tennessee may be where he ends up."

Here's the actual audio of the interview here. Coaching talk at roughly 14:00 mark (exact comment at 14:19)
