"Jon is itching to get back in to coaching. His last payment from Tampa Bay comes this season. I know for a fact he has started putting together a possible staff for next season. I know there have been reports that he is thinking about Philadelphia and some other places, but Jon is interested in the University of Tennessee more than any NFL job. That's something to watch closely in the next few weeks."

Who said that? The La Canfora guy?

Yea no sh*t, who said that????

found this post on Hogville. :)

Gruden to Knoxville will change the landscape of the East-especially with Spurrier retiring in the near future. South Carolina will become irrelevant again, UGA will have their years (but Richt will actually have to out-coach the TN coach for the first time since Kiffin, good luck with that) and the only consistent challenger will be Florida. I know I am getting ahead of myself-can't help it, so let's keep going...

I also think this would weaken LSU, and water down the type of talent they can get their hands on. As a recruit-why go to the West and duke it out with Alabama each year just for the potential of winning the division when you could go to the East and have an easier path to the SECCG each year?

But, based on what I have seen out of Gruden these past few years with the QB camp, the work he has done locally with HS football I think he enjoys the coaching aspect of it-and not just the scheme, but the teaching. You don't get that in the NFL, except for grooming a QB. In college it's all about recruiting and player development. I think a guy like Gruden is actually turned on more by what he can do as a coach in college than in the NFL. And besides-he's already been to the mountain top in the pros.[/QUOTE]

I hope with all my orange blooded hope that you are right. I really, really want him to be our coach. I want Tennesse to be that place where kids are developed and they leave here knowing that they have reached their college potential.

ESPN will undoubtedly want to contriol the announcement and the message. Since Gruden is terminating a contract with ESPN, ESPN most likely will have a say.

I am A O K with that. National exposure on MNF in Nashville would be great....JS:good!:

Like Alabama? Yes-that would be nice.

I work in DC - know people who run around in the same circles as JLC and remember him from the Post.
If he said it, he believes it, probably because he's picked it up along the way from his NFL sources.

The exact comment is:

Here's the actual audio of the interview here. Coaching talk at roughly 14:00 mark (exact comment at 14:19)
I just went from six to midnight....

Dude is a bandwagon fan. Lakers and Yankees??

I also like how his favorite teams are nowhere near each other.

Los Angeles - West
Minnesota - Midwest/North
Tennessee - Southeast
New York - Northeast

smh

Yep I pay attention to that too. Lots of bandwagoners round these parts. I wonder if he knows the Lakers took D'antoni over Phil? I bet he changes it to the Heat when he finds out.

...and most certainly shut the back doors on Memphis, our only real in-state golden nugget stream.

There is nothing asinine about the responses people have provided on this question. The responses are legitimate and have value and bring merit to your question. Either you do not want to think they bring merit or you do not have an understanding of how things work in the professional world nor understand you don't treat friends that way and remain friends afterwards.

I am very familiar with the professional world as I have been in the "professional world" for going on 20 years. I am not some young college wet behind the ears kid. Business is business and college football is big business!

That being said, you bring more issues into this than I was presenting. My bone of contention specifically relates to Gruden and his MNF gig, and nothing else!!!

Whatever relationship Gruden has with Dooley is a separate issue that really does not relate to his MNF gig. I would dare to say that Gruden is not "friends" with Dooley in the normal meaning of the term friends however I digress.

The point I am making so as to clarify it to you and anyone else who is reading is that Gruden could complete his MNF gig this year and be announced as the next HC at UT. It would actually be a very simple thing and would dispel any concerns NFL owners and coaches may have regarding Gruden's possibility of coaching in the NFL.

I have not really criticized any of the other potential reasons for keeping the Gruden deal quiet if there is a deal.

How are we going to Celebrate on here when this happens? I might, just might get so excited I will have a heart attack... :welcome3::toast::number1::3cheers::bammer::baloon::daddy::fireworks:
Not sure I can wait til mid December before I climax....Just Sayin.

That would sure be a slap in the face to all of those jackwagon bama fans that live in Middle Tennessee. I was born and raised outside of Hendersonville and I never could understand the bama love.

Sometimes silence is like ether...everything airborne dissolves into it. If its left alone, it floats around harmlessly. But if it is disturbed with certain elements or compounds...it becomes explosive and extremely volatile.
