Before Gruden can be announced as the next HC there has to be a vacancy
You cannot announce a termination one day and announce his replacement the next day.
UTAD has to look like there was a coaching search for a few weeks
Dooley and Gruden are friends, doubt Gruden wants to bring any shame upon his friend with a quick announcement.
Gruden still has to uphold his contract with MNF and work out the buyout of said contract with his other sponsors.
It is not cut and dry on the announcement, as been stated numerous times it is fluid.
I work in DC - know people who run around in the same circles as JLC and remember him from the Post.
If he said it, he believes it, probably because he's picked it up along the way from his NFL sources.
The exact comment is:
Here's the actual audio of the interview here. Coaching talk at roughly 14:00 mark (exact comment at 14:19)
This is a good point. However, I would think hes only going to get a few questions unless there is smoke around something. "He Jon, you goin to the Eagles?", "No.", "well ok then." Its easy to deny because its true.
Currently if he gets any questions about UT its going to be "What job? Tennessee has a coach." He may not want to be put into the position that Saban was, having to deny everything.
It may be contractual as well as mentioned above.
Yesterday on college football live they were talking about Dooley pretty much being gone and the host said does Tennessee need that "rockstar hire" or just someone stable to come in and rebuild. Douchey Palmer said he doesn't think it matters cause Lane Kiffin was a rock star hire and look what happened. He said we need someone that is a great recruiter cause UTs current talent isn't close to what it was when he was playing against UT. He said Strong or Petrino would be good options. At the beginning of the convo when the guy said "rockstar hire" I knew he was talking about Gruden but no one mentioned his name. I think Gruden has told ESPN he doesn't want analyst mentioning his name when it comes to coaching gigs. Jmo
A lot of people probably don't know this. It sounds like Gruden wants it done the right way. In all aspects.
Well, that about settles it for me. If JLC is saying this about Gruden, and reporting that Gruden puts Tennessee above all of the other potential openings in the NFL I'm good to go.
Not that this means anything, but JLC was the first reporter to predict Washington to be the team to trade up for the #2 pick in last years draft. Everyone else said Cleveland-even Schefter for a while, and Schefter has always had a direct line to Shanahan. If JLC did not have a stong inclination that Gruden favors Tennessee he would not have said anything.
sorry for asking this guys but who is JLC?
Anyone else find it funny that Arkansas's actual forum is so convinced that Gruden wouldn't go to Arkansas that they lock and delete all Gruden threads and yet there is a group of like 50 people that started another site to play with themselves? Those 50 are so convinced they're getting Gruden. Them waiting for the announcement to happen tomorrow is like waiting for the world to end in December. They actually believe it's going to happen lol:
