Official Jon Gruden Thread VII

I think this is why folks like TB and Ainge are trying to shut down Gruden talk. I wasn't with all the smoke screen theories at first, but something weird is going on. Ainge came out of nowhere a few weeks ago on a Monday, and unabated said Gruden wasn't coming. TB spent an ENTIRE show a few weeks ago talking about Gruden-the whole show, and then recently he says the chances are remote. Ummm-k.

Something has happened behind the scenes, and the entire Knoxville media seems to be in line-almost like they don't want to be the ones to spill the beans and cause questions for Gruden, and screw it all up.

Yeah people were calling Basilio crazy when he said it was going to be Kiffin and he didn't back off at all

What do Brian Billick, Tom Coughlin, Mike Ditka, Jimmy Johnson, Bill parcells, Dick Vermeil, and Jon Gruden all have in common? They've all won Super Bowls and they all have an NFL winning percentage below 57%.

The truth is no ones NFL winning percentage is all that high. The League is just too hard, everyone is good, and it almost impossible to dominate. Most would say Bill Belichick has dominated the NFL and his is only 63%. Bill Cowher's is 62%.

And when it comes to college football, NFL wins mean next to nothing. Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, Bobby Petrino, and Pete Carroll all have worse NFL records than Gruden. Even Gene Stallings and Lou Holtz failed in the NFL before winning National Titles in college.

Awesome explanation! I clickie the like button!

It cracks me up when folks in the media say this. NFL jobs have been available lately-and good ones, but Gruden has been on the sideline for what-4 years now? If that's what he wanted to do what has he been waiting for?

If Gruden was interested in any of those NFL jobs, then he would have taken one of them.:twocents:

Steve Spurrier once beat Bill Belichick and Tony Dungy in an NFL football game. That says all you need to say about the NFL and a coach's record.

I want it to be Morris, but Zook would be good to...great recruiter.

One of the best recruiters in the nation. Urban Meyer praised Zook for recruiting the players he used to win the NC in 2007. 22 out of the 24 starters that year were recruited by Ron Zook.

I'm just worried about his prevent defense that got him fired from FL.

Exactly. What is Belichick's record without Tom Brady? Not saying he is anything but a great coach, but these guys have to have great players to win. Gruden won at a historically bad organization (Tampa) and at an organization that has been bad over the last 20 years sans Gruden (Raiders).

Maybe I'm trying to rationalize Gruden to UT to myself but I think that once you've been out of the NFL for a few years, the league tends to pass you by, no matter who you are. Even if he doesn't land at UT, I think Gruden would do better as a college coach than he would in the NFL nowadays.

You mean like the current HC of our Washington Redskins?

Maybe he will change his scheme if he becomes the DC.

I'm not a fan of the prevent defense except at the very end of a game for a hail mary pass.

Georgia submitted twice.

God help us all.

Here are the others-

All told, petitions have been filed on behalf of 20 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

I agree 100%

A stat and fact lost on most. Well said

His record in five years at Cleveland was 36 - 44 (45%)

Billick may be a good candidate to replace JG in the booth...seen him do some TV and radio...he's pretty good

He would be the proverbial choice...the proverbial next man up...the proverbial johnny on the spot in taking the MNF job.

Brian Billick likes to say 'proverbial."
