TIFWIW
My boss is friends with the former oline coach of the bucs who is currently unemployed thanks to the Greg Shiano hiring/Raheem Morris firing. They talk, text and golf regularly in Clearwater area. At least up until all of this Gruden talk started getting hot and heavy. About a month + ago he confirmed JG was talking to a few teams about the possibility of returing to coaching after MNF is over this year. a couple were NFL and one was UT. He wouldnt give much details other than he was seriously considering coaching again next year and UT was being considered. One plus he mentioned with UT over the NFL offers was that the cost of living here was much less and the fact that we have no state income tax made UT very attractive. one week later he confirmed that JG had decided where he wanted to go if things worked out contractually and said that JG met with him and another coach (he wouldnt say who) to gauge their interest in coming with him IF he took the job. I tell you this because two days later, when my boss texted him for an update he politely but firmly informed him that he could no longer talk, text or meet with anyone regarding JG and his future. This was at JG's request and he was very firm about it. Since then he will not take my bosses phone calls, answer texts nothing. My boss read the story from TOS today about 11/26 being JG's last day on MNF and texted him to ask and he would only say that, JG will be with MNF til the end of the year. This is the first time in 3 weeks he has even sent a reply to him regardless of the subject. This doesnt confirm anything regarding UT, only that JG is being very quite about his future and that he is demanding the same from the people around him.
Jim Gumm 105.1 ESPN radio/ Chattanooga is a local sports radio show on a ESPN band.
Gruden: new ball coach!
Jim is not a national ESPN host.
Right. I hope I didn't confuse anybody into thinking he was a national host.
Also, I've heard him talk about the Gruden thing before over the last couple of weeks, but this is the first time I've heard him say he is convinced Gruden is coming to UT.
Cost of living, and the state income tax point have been expressed to me as key selling points. We talked about that being a key for JG about a month ago.
Also the silence from the Gruden side of this confirms a lot of what I've been told about who is driving the behaviour surrounding all of this. Makes sense.
Thanks for sharing.:salute:
Once again. Never have I came here claiming to have a source and I will never tell where I got this info but its Gruden. Dooley will be fired following the Vanderbilt game should we lose or after Kentucky should we win the Vandy game. Gruden has been on board for a few weeks now and all the Heart not wanting to fire Dooley was and is just a smoke screen.
Update: Gruden has the core of his staff ready to hit the ground running when the word is given on Dooley and a few coaches on the current staff will be retained.
Silence at his request is the only logical reason I can think of not make a public announcement regarding CDD.
IF JG or someone else is your guy, then why not go public? The bowl theory doesnt add up IMO, EVERYONE knows (players included) that CDD is gone. The idea that waiting to announce in order to keep the team together in hopes of making a bowl game seems silly to me. Especically since some of the team would rather play for chaney anyway if you believe reports by other media outlets.
I can't think of another reason not to go public unless you already have your coach and he wants it that way. This could be JG or someone currently employed elsewhere that for obvious reasons we ethically shouldnt be talking to until the end of their season anyway.
However there are a lot of reasons you would want to make it public. Officially getting it out there to gauge interest from other current or soon to be unemployed coaches, i.e., Petrino for one. also to soothe the fan base and donors, help boost attendance for the KY game, etc...
Hart knows his job is on the line for this hire so why not jump out ahead of the curve unless you don't have to? Hes no dummy, he has a plan and this falls inline with it for a reason.
Apparently ESPN has began to structure their contracts such that there is a very large penalty for personalities that leave before their season is final. I know in the past Parcels left them mid season, some baseball guys have, not sure but I though Bobby Knight did to take texas tech job also. Its hard to say this for sure but when I was searching for gruden contract info a lot stories came up about different clauses being recently add to contracts guaranteeing that they will finish out their seasons. This would explain a lot if JG is our guy.
I could be reading a lot into that since I want him to be our guy so bad!
Want to say sorry to all for the foray into political discussion. I understand this isn't the place for it and there are many of different philosophies and political persuasions. There are many folks that I like here who probably disagree with me. I hope there is no ill will.
