For one, he's not a strong recruiter. 2nd, Mizzou and UGA don't have very good defenses and MSU has given up 37 points or more to every ranked team they've played. Bray has had footwork issues this year (QB drops) and that falls on Chaney. He seems to have failed to teach the offense about hot routes. His offense also either stagnates or turns the ball over in pressure situations (UF, UGA, MSU, Bama), and in my opinion, his playcalling seems to put too much emphasis on the 1st option (3rd and 6 vs MSU, sends Devrin Young on a wheel route with MSU blitzing 2 linebackers, there was no real 2nd option). Honestly, you don't have to be a great offensive coord to score points with the talent on this offense, I think this offense could be even better with a good OC.
Whats happening VolNation? I am a new member to this great board but have been viewing it non stop since the Gruden rumors broke. Quick question to some of you in the greater Knoxville area, specifically Sevierville. Does anyone know any of Mrs. Gruden's family? I hadnt heard anything else about the rumor they were stating he was coming. Also heard some real estate rumors but was under the impression he already built a home there. You guys keep me entertained daily, keep up the good work!!
What else is out there honestly other than what the reporter said today? I really want to believe , I do, trust me.
On top of what OldVol, Jay, DTO, Lex, SBV, Gman, and Orange Slice have said? These guys are solid in my book. Gman and OS were originally skeptics, mind you.
- what Hubbs said regarding Gruden's staff having a Tennessee feel to it. Also what he said regarding Gruden contacting Kevin Steele. Also, Hubbs saying that those close to him said that if the right offer were made, it would be hard to turn down.
Hubbs plays it close to the vest. He doesn't go out there without something solid. The fact that he even mentions a "staff with a Tennessee feel" tells me that Gruden has been making calls. That is something that wouldn't be done unless Gruden were serious.
- The stuff that just doesn't make sense otherwise. Hart holding onto Dooley so long without comment, while other schools are getting a jump on the coaching search. You may say that there might be a done deal with Kirby Smart. I would counter that Hart can't be that stupid. The fans wouldn't go for it. The boosters wouldn't go for it. The phase of hiring a coach on the cheap and hoping it works out is over. We look at Bama and see that you get what you pay for.
Throw onto that all the other anecdotal things from former Vols who have worked with or played for Gruden, his love for the University and the area, and I believe.
