Sounds to me like the deal is in it's 11th hour and the final details are beginning to be worked out...bck and forth.

Lets all just hope that it's the kind of deal where everyone stands up in the end, shakes hands across the table, smiles, and then everyone says..." Now lets get to work!"

Talking about fast track, Chad Morris has only coached football for 4-5 years and is already making 1.3 million as an OC w/ Clemson.

does anyone remember harold lercius. he was the safety for vandy that in 98 he was on ESPN and said that they were gonna mess up UT'S perfect record? anyways, me amd him r goin to the game today, is anyone goin?i wnted stop and say whats up or something.

This is my first negative thought concerning Gruden, but here goes anyway: if he is actually going to bend us over a barrel for staff salaries, I don't want him here. If he loves UT and wants to be our coach I would expect him to not act like a mercenary. That said, I doubt these numbers are fact. If however they are, I want results and I want them quickly with ZERO excuses tendered for the failure to achieve them.

I am likely ignorant about this, but why pay that amount for Chad Morris when Gruden will call plays? Would Gruden not call plays? I would think Jeremy Bates or Jay Graham as OC with Gruden calling plays would be a good option
Gruden could certainly call plays. He have met with C. Morris and like how he plans games or his playcalling, etc. I really don't know, but there are some reasons.

I like Jay Graham as much as anyone, but IMO he is not ready for the OC position. The OC is more than just calling plays.

I think Jeremy Bates would be a very solid option, as would John Shoop.

As for C. Morris, maybe Gruden would just want the best coach period.

It will be worth every penny, if we get Gruden. Money will be made if he is the Coach or lost if not.

This... A truckload of money will be made..

I really hope they realize this and get this deal done..

I'm actually happy with it. We want to have a great staff like the one that is shaping up.

If they are willing to pony up and pay a legitimate, program-changing coach/staff, why should any of us give a bleep how much it costs?
Yep, hell I wouldn't care if they sold the new IPF to get the money.

Yes, I am aware that the new IPF is what will attract coaches/recruits, etc. Figure of speech.

A great staff, yes indeed. The highest paid in CFB? I hope he ends up being worth it. That kind of money and 9 wins seasons is not worth it IMO.

The plot can't get much thicker, so yeah, why not.

Is Bayern going to pull it out today?

It's looking like a draw at the moment. Heinckes (Bayerns manager) decided to start too many subs this game. I understand giving people a rest, but not half the team at the same time.

I dont care to look up bowl payouts, game revenue's, merchandise, advertising, tv deals, etc....but with what this potential staff would do, I would think that the $ would be well spent. UT would see plenty of $ from a title and all that entails, and from BCS games. I dont have a doubt Gruden would lead UT to a conference title game in a short period of time. I do understand why (if true) UT is checking other options. I would be disappointed with anything less with Gruden but there could be a big name out there that would appease me. Del Rio would be fine by me, jmo

Man...I don't see it that way, with all due respect. This is the kind of deal I see going in the direction that, yes Gruden is going to lobby for his staff to maximize opp. But he's also going to be telling UT that...look these guys are the best in the business. We know each other. We agree on coaching philosophies. We agree on style. That's what I need to be sucessful.

If I were him, that's wht I'd be saying.

Or we could go with a Dooley-esk situation and have a revolving and bolting staff??

So in the end, I bet the negotiation comes somewhere in the middle...leaning to the Gruden side...with some long term agreements to create stability.

Everyone gets what they want!!!

So it's damned if ya do damned if ya don't... It's impossible to please this fan base.

Who cares how much it costs if winning is the result?

I think the staff stuff is overblown. I've been wrong before, but I wouldn't put much stock in it.

Look at it this way, if you were being hired as head coach and you loved UT that much would you not want the best staff you could possibly put together?

I want Gruden as much as anyone but I don't want a bargain basement staff to go with him just to save a little money. If what we are reading in the Cliff notes is true, neither does Gruden..

Yeah, the extra 2 mil is somewhat negligible at that point.

Exactly.

Plus, if there is a signed MOU as claimed on here a few nights ago, I would assume babyvol's post (or his information) is old. The parties most have cleared all of the necessary hurdles IF a MOU has indeed been signed.
