a deal hasn't been done, as others suggested. It wasn't possible with AD obstacles. It became possible just recently.
The thing that is exciting, is that all obstacles have been overcome on the AD side.
The next step is to see if Gruden was bluffing or not.

Contradictory. Interesting.

Phillip Fulmer, David Cutcliffe, Walt Harris, Ron Zook and Kevin Steele, plus*quality*assistants like Ken Donahue, Kippy Brown and Doug Mathews.

These are some of the coaches on Majors staff at the time, just to clarify

not really. Hart referred to it in his press conference when he discussed obstacles and Cheek. Demands may be made behind the scenes in an "if you do this, i'll be highly interested" type situation, but when you have a coach and staff under contract, changes in the BOT, and obstacles specifically with Cheek, it's impossible that a deal was done on the athletic department side.

Mike Tirico was just on the Scott Van Pelt show and he siad if Jon was getting back into coaching that he thought it would be next year. But again, he said Jon doesnt tell him anything. Tirico did mention Arky and TN...

No one in particular just overall. I also started hearing it a month or so before posting it. Talked to some big $$$ at Florida game that were sold it would happen. I was still all "we are gonna beat Florida and win 9 games" bought in. Then it picked up steam and people I never imagined talking about it were. Everyone from former players, current players families, UT coaches of other sports, former AD members, $$$$, and current UT media people started talking about it. Then I found the thread in II I think, had not been on VN much in a long time before that. What certain people were saying lined up almost exactly. That's when I bought in. I wavered when I was told by a VERY trusted UT alumni that he said no and it was over only to completely reversed again on "Orange Tuesday" as I have started to call it haha. I started celebrating then. Everything here matched his info even the hiccup between Bama and Troy whatever it was. Will forget someone but Boro, DTO, Jay, Lex, OCI, and others here from near the beginning are good people that obv love the Vols and bring good things to this community.

It would take a screw up of monumental proportions for this to not happen. Like I told my kids, this is going to be the most exciting hire possibly in college football history.

And we are here for it, ain't it cool?

Not sure what I will do once this is all over, never was a FF guy. Maybe Freak will give us an OG Sports Bar forum so to speak where those of us that have gotten to know each other so well can have a place to discuss UT football, cats, politics, whatever. We have become a community within a community.

At this point, I think we could start a whole new forum with the regulars in the Gruden threads...

The state of Gruden is seceding from the union!!!

Did you notice Hart's line about "the hurdles have been cleared"...meaning the hurdles no longer exist. I thought that was quite telling.

Only thing that bothers me is Arky keeps getting mentioned too.

I would like to know if Larry's % chance went up drastically today. You guys think his contacts are gone, but he's been as accurate as anyone on this site since I've been on. If you have known people around campus for 20+ years, you don't run out of them until you want to be out of the loop.
LWS knows his stuff. I hope his % has gone up too, but it won't make me stop thinking we get Gruden if they haven't. I'm on the Gruden train until it derails, or he steps up to the podium.
