Official Jon Gruden Thread X

Someone should ask Hubbs why he is shooting down the Gruden talk when a prominent 1980's era Volunteer is spreading joyous news as we speak to many former players.

Either Hubbs knows about this and is lying through his teeth or he is oblivious to something that ALOT of people just became aware of. My guess is the former. The cat's out of the bag to former players.

Please elaborate!

It is hard to know what the F is going on! As someone just said, we've got booster connects telling us one thing (gruden) and the AD saying the opposite (it's not going to be gruden and nobody has been offered the job). I do think it's possible that Hart is keeping things close to the vest until Gruden decides--if in fact Gruden has been offered the job. Or maybe Hart doesn't like the idea of having Gruden foisted on him by boosters whom he hasn't known very long; maybe he wants to show everybody that he's got a johnson, that he's in charge, and he's going to go through a process. Maybe he likes Fisher, having been at fsu, and thinks he can get him to UT--who knows what the hell he thinks, but I'd sure love to know! Certainly, sometime this week the UTAD needs to make clear whether Gruden has been offered the job or not. You can't keep that a mystery much longer. I imagine if three or four big boosters, including P. Manning, want Gruden, Hart doesn't have a whole lot of flexibility--though he could certainly dither and stall long enough to piss Gruden off. This situation really shows how tenuous the position of AD can be. One thing we all agree is that we need a big hire this time. We tried unproven--unproven head coach and unproven DC--and they flopped. Golden = No. Cincy coach = no.

I don't speak for Swanson, but the idea that the "3rd Party people" somehow suddenly cooled on Gruden makes little to no sense...

I'd buy it if he said the AD pulled back, but the mythical "3rd Party" that has supposedly been pursuing him for quite sometime just up and dropped it? Huh?

Definitely. He would have denied the rumors and gave the whole, "remains committed to ESPN" from his own mouth if talks were closed off and there's no chance. So obviously, they are still in talks.

Does anyone know how that UM pursuit worked? The article mentions Gruden actually interviewing and visiting the campus. We have no confirmation from a major media outlet that Gruden is legitimately in talks with Tennessee, visiting the campus, etc I think this is craziness.

Hart could have persuaded them to go a different direction. JMO

I have reason to believe that as of now, many prominent former Volunteer football players are in the know as to what's going down. Until now, only the more involved ones knew.

If anyone on the boards has any connections to prominent former players (i.e. not a backup punter), they will likely know what I am talking about and can expand. The Vol Family is being united. Hubbs and Hyams are about as trustworthy as a Cocke County meth addict. What a joke.

Do I sound like I am fired up? Haha.

The FF is so polluted that maybe they can't stand it over there. But they were the ones who polluted it, as the current condition of this thread demonstrates.

I believe we'll get Gruden ... until we don't.

Regardless, Hart realizes the extreme importance of this hire. Football is the engine that drives the entire AD. If he doesn't hit a big time hire, then there will truly be a nuclear winter for the UTAD.

So if it's not Gruden, it will be someone very good.
