Official Jon Gruden Thread X

Someone should ask Hubbs why he is shooting down the Gruden talk when a prominent 1980's era Volunteer is spreading joyous news as we speak to many former players.

Either Hubbs knows about this and is lying through his teeth or he is oblivious to something that ALOT of people just became aware of. My guess is the former. The cat's out of the bag to former players.

And, to try and make us believe that we never even got to the point of discussing money with Gruden is crazy! Especially after he himself was getting us exited with his posts. On top of that, in the last week, even people like Higgins in Memphis and the Chatt guys started quoting money figures, and the same week he suddenly says it never got that far. That's BS!

Just because the boosters say they will throw the money at Gruden now, will they when he is in his 3rd losing season? That 50 million is not paid in cash up front. The 40 million for the staff is not paid in cash up front. Where were the boosters when the school needed to pay off Fulmers, Pearls, Hamiltons, and other buyouts? Hart is in a bad spot. IMO, he is smart to make the hire that HE feels gives us the best chance to win. Maybe the boosters do cover the 1st years money to Gruden and company. What happens if it all goes bad? It's not as easy as people think.

Doing what he wants over what the boosters want seems like a quicker way to losing his job. What if his pick fails?

I confess. I have been punchy tonight. The truth is making an announcement after tonights game would have been rushed. I have no idea what is going on. I don't think the time thing has reached critical. If J. Graham has a recruiting target list he can easily ask recruits to give it a few more days while expressing serious interest. I have enjoyed the story the OG's have rolled out. Be interesting to see it play out if it will.

There was never going to be an announcement tonight. Maybe a media leak but no announcement.*

Ron, sorry buddy, but I'd hitch my wagon with Hubbs. I feel like folks on here are willfully lying to themselves.

I normally would hitch my wagon to Hubbs but somethings not right this time. He's said some things tonight that don't jive with what he's been saying over the last few weeks about Gruden and UT.

And now he's saying the boosters aren't interested? Yeaaaah right. So all these people who post on VN, VQ, Scout and other places are making up stuff they hear from their friends who are boosters or work with boosters or are family, etc? That would be quite the conspiracy.

I don't buy it. I think it's much more likely that Hubbs isn't being truthful here and I'm guessing it's because the AD told him to throw some water on the Gruden story because they know how devoted his followers are. Most would believe his story. And like I said I normally would as well but he's said some things (quotes that have been posted in here tonight) that are contradictory to things he's been saying over the last few weeks.

Until they introduce a new coach I'm still putting my $ on it being Gruden. JMO

Would be a strange turn of events losing another coach to them. Not that I believe it would happen but just saying.
Realisticly Gruden probably values UT coaching job more than he would the USC job tho. Just in terms of the institution, location, and football program. So it doesn't really worry me. I doubt Kiffin gets fired but who knows.

I have not followed many coaching searches so I have a couple questions.
IF he is accepting a job (at a later date) then would he simply accept it and go on or would he still deny interest in the other jobs?
IF he is staying at MNF will he deny interest in all jobs or just ignore. What is the norm?
In watching Twitter the main teams mentioned of course are Tennessee, Arkansas and the Eagles and he has not said anything publicly that I am aware of.

If Hart hires Charlie Strong, Dan Mullen, or Kirby Smart after the move was made for th UTAD to keep $18 million, then they better rip out 30,000 seats from Neyland Stadium, because they will be empty each week.

I believe the same. I think Kiffin stays for at least another year.

Or maybe Dave Hart is doing the smart thing and protecting UT from a total disaster. Just because you throw more money at a guy does not make him the best choice.

I have a hard time putting more trust in Hart than the group of boosters that have been mentioned and their collective business skills.
