Official Jon Gruden Thread X

I would argue it's more likely UT is keeping everything hush hush than it is for them to be releasing false information through back channels and leaked sources. I mean UT hasn't even said they're in talks with any coaches, Gruden or otherwise. If they wanted to build up hype for the position with Gruden as the dog and pony show, I'd imagine they'd make it more public. "Gruden expressed interest in the program, but our athletic department decided to pursue candidates more closely tied to college athletics." Or something along those lines. Not in any way saying it isn't possible, just seems unlikely.

Crookruss responded to a jmoore_21 post and made it sound like Gruden and Stoops said "no" to Dave Hart.

All of this talk about a deal being in place ect is all Booster driven & Hart has nothing to do w/ it.
A friend who is family to someone in the coaching family says Gruden has declined and we made an offer to another very prominent college HC that was politely declined.

My theory- When the MOU was agreed to, some boosters took this as a "done deal" and that info get passed along to this message board. Negotiations later stalled over other concerns. The reason neither the AD nor Gruden are saying it is over is because the deal is simply at an impasse, it's not dead just dead in the water. Hart will begin interviewing HC candidates for two reasons- to force the Gruden side to give in on some sticking point, and to find us a HC in case Gruden is just playing us the way he has played so many teams over the last few years. There are no smokescreens and no 11-dimensional chess being played with the public.

I just want a good coach. Gruden is a pipe dream, but that's okay. There are plenty of proven college coaches that could come here and make UT relevant again. I would love Strong, Patterson and of course Stoops.

Same source Ath Dept now saying back in play...

AD folks seem to be in the same darkness we are...

:loco:

Got this text from same buddy last night...

"Deal is done. UT wants to wait until Friday to announce but may be forced to sooner because of leaks.

Source is 1,000%"

We shall see, huh?

I posted a theory yesterday, but after thinking about it some more I believe I understand what they are doing. Hart said during the press conf. that you have a list of coaches because " you never know when and why you will need to hire a new coach" and he's right. Let's say Gruden is a done deal, Hart still wants to do all the interviews of "qualified" coaches before announcing because it is the proper way to do it. What if Hart just did telephone interview just to say he interviewed them and 6 months later Gruden dies from heart attack. Those coaches will remember you did not give them time of day and will not be interested.

Has anyone ventured over to Hogville today? I am afraid that is what this forum is going to look like in the near future. Almost all of them have come to terms with them not getting Gruden. I think a lot of people are getting their hopes up here, just like on Hogville, only to be let down later. I'm not even sure Gruden would be the best hire, he is a big time name, but we know nothing about how successful he would be in college. I still hope we get him, but this whole thing makes me uneasy.

Some people I know believe this almost verbatim. Some I know believe it is basically done. I just put more stake in the latter group without completely dismissing the former group.

In a Times Free Press early-season poll of 37 prep coaches from southeast Tennessee, northwest Georgia and northeast Alabama, 32 gave Dooley and his staff a failing grade for recruiting rapport and overall communication and effectiveness. Those coaches admitted the lack of familiarity and comfort level in dealing with the UT staff directly affected the recruitment of any current or future prospects in their program.

At this point, I think anybody would be better than Dooley, and I drank the Doolaid till the Missouri game.

The same Strong that couldn't even dominate the Big East? Losses to UCONN and Syracuse don't garner much confidence for me that he can get it done in the SEC

Caught up on this thread this morning. I wonder if Gruden doesn't sign with us how many of you will still defend these so-called insiders? While I am sure a 'snag' will be blamed will you buy that? Will you attack them like you attacked anyone who was spoken out that there is chance this is not a done deal? Honestly you should blame yourself because you are the sheep that followed them and gave fuel to the fire of lies. How many Smiths, Shannons, or Grudens for you to stop drinking the kool-aid on here?

Now Gruden could be the hire in the end, and I'm not saying he will not. What I am saying is this thread is suffering from the same phenomenon as Grudenville. Your desire to believe overrides everything else.

When UT hires a coach (I believe it will be Gruden) but if it is not Gruden you will have the whole off season to be an arse..... why don't you give it a rest today!

Your own comments say that the insiders are liars, but then you say Gruden could be the coach.... it can't be both....so who is setting up what here

But he is a good guy and advanced the program and left it better..........

Give me a ****ing break.

No need to pile on, but certainly no level of gratitude is required there.

I'm not going to get my hopes up.. As much as I want Gruden to be the next head coach, I ultimately dont think it's going to happen.. I'm expecting the worst, and hoping for the best when it comes to Gruden. I hope I'm wrong. If we don't get him, I'll still be behind this University 110%. With or without him.
