Official Jon Gruden Thread X

I'm so glad I woke up. Last night, I had a dream that we hired Kirby Smart. I never felt so down about UT football. It was the worst dream ever!

I did not disagree, and several got defensive anyway.

I wasn't meaning to be defensive. There have been some people jumping in with guarantees etc that have not been in on the info from the start. I just go by the ones I have trusted over time and that have been consistent throughout. I named the ones that have been providing info since the Cheez-It Thread.

Then you should be able to find the post no?

I tend to think that volnation a veritable echo chamber. Someone makes some speculation, it filters through the board like ripples on water, and comes back as being verified by other "solid" posters.

I have actually seen this happen, in person, in "real life." Person X makes some tongue in cheek statement that is overheard by others. Next thing you know person X is hearing the comment he made back from other people in the office as the prevailing rumor.

Where it really gets crazy is when Person X then starts to think that he/she predicted something because he/she is hearing his own rumor repeated back. It is almost a mathematical equation. A tells B who tells C. When C tells A that he heard something from a reputable source (B) the story has changed just enough to sound a bit different than when A told B originally.

Then, everyone panics or celebrates.

I hope that these Gruden rumors or true, because like many have said if it falls through...we could be scraping the swill from the bottom of the barrel. And, please God don't let the Sonny Dykes rumors be true.

I could also tell you this: I have an old friend, actually my former roommate from UT, who works in Knoxville media and has verifiable direct connections with the top tier of the Pilot Corp. He sent me a message this morning that confirms that some of the rumblings on here are true, and that he got that directly from those in the know. Those rumblings are that there is a bit of a snag in the dealings, and no one seems to know how it will turn out. He has been told that Haslam and Manning have been involved with Gruden for awhile, and that the AD has been in direct contact with Gruden since right after the Vanderbilt game.

Would I consider that "solid" information? No. Would I say that I trust it more than internet rumors? Yes.

Siap, on inside Tennessee football aka the Derek Dooley show, John Brice said he thinks mid Dec is when we get a coach. He didn't mention any names so maybe that Dec 13 date might have some steam. Who knows just thought I'd pass it along.

You will find out that most are taking a shot in the dark...this list would be impossible to make since it would be made entirely based on opinion.

Edit: didn't see "when it is all said and done" ...good luck with said list

We'll see. If I'm about to be stuck on bedrest over the holidays like I think the doc is going to make me, then I'll have plenty of time to work on it when all is said and done. Otherwise it'll be every man, woman, and Bama fan for himself sorting through the info.

Gotcha. Well I hope for vols everywhere that it happens, personally I'm cautiously optimistic, but not holding my breath.

Solid..

That is the right approach in my opinion. I am hoping it happens and believe there is too much smoke for there to be nothing to the rumors.

Probably wouldn't be having any of these coaching conversations if Dooley would have promoted lance Thompson to DC and kept the 4-3. UT is probably sitting at 9-3. I don't like Dooley but I know I'm right. Have a good day volnation. Things can only get better. Gotta name a new coach soon or things will get bad on the hill.

Yeah, maybe I've missed some stuff, but from what I've read I've seen very little in the way of hard "insider" predictions that have actually come true.

Dooley is a loser. He would just have invented new ways to lose.

I would just like to say that, to me, "done deal" means that there is a binding agreement, and not that the parties have mutual interest in negotiating such an agreement. It looks to me like this might be far from a "done deal."

Are these snags old news or could it be true that something just came up?

It's actually fascinating, to me. I even surprise myself with how much I want to buy into it all. I have read stuff on here, gotten excited, went to go tell my wife then realized that she doesn't care (she is a Gator) and that if she asked me "where did you hear that?" and I say "volnation" she just laughs at me. lol

Did I miss the part where Lance Thompson was this valuable all-fired DC that would have nailed it--isn't he fetching coffee for Saban at Bammer again?

That's the one thing I liked about Kiffin. He had swagger.

UT needs to get its swagger back and I think Gruden would do it.

If we take Jimbo, I assume FSU's #1 pick is Mark Richt. Whether he leaves or not is a different story but the SEC could get real muddy real fast.

At first I just pushed Fisher aside but I watched the game yesterday and now would accept him. Not my first or second pick but OK

Sadly I agree. I backed him like nobody else but after MSU I jumped off that wagon like it was infested with herpes. He kept making excuses for losing, I ran out of excuses for backing and defending him. Wish the guy the best future possible but glad he's gone.

Still Beleving for Gruden if not I hope its Bob stoops are Gary paterson. I would take Bobby petrino over Al Golden. Hoping its not Al golden
