Still Beleving for Gruden if not I hope its Bob stoops are Gary paterson. I would take Bobby petrino over Al Golden. Hoping its not Al golden

I think Al Golden's name is slipping in our coaching search to drive up his price at Miami IMO same with Stoops and his supposed "unhappiness"

snag in the dealings[/B], and no one seems to know how it will turn out. He has been told that Haslam and Manning have been involved with Gruden for awhile, and that the AD has been in direct contact with Gruden since right after the Vanderbilt game.

Would I consider that "solid" information? No. Would I say that I trust it more than internet rumors? Yes.

If there is a snag, it is that Gruden has never been 100% "in" and is getting cold feet and is starting to nitpick to look for ways to get out.

People who want to close deals look for ways to compromise and reach agreement. People that don't want to close nitpick at things to create an impasse so they can walk away. That has been him MO in the past. I hope it isn't true now.

I would just like to say that, to me, "done deal" means that there is a binding agreement, and not that the parties have mutual interest in negotiating such an agreement. It looks to me like this might be far from a "done deal."

Are these snags old news or could it be true that something just came up?

I can't answer that definitively, and I have no real sources. But, from what someone whom I trust who is close to the situation told me today, there are lagging issues that keep this situation unstable. Everyone seems to think that all of these issues would be known by all parties up front. That is silly on so many levels. When you go to buy a house, the deal is generally contingent on a home inspection, a survey, an appraisal and the ability to get a loan. Perhaps we have gotten past the point of negotiating the initial price terms, and the survey, appraisal or loan application are sticking points? That would seem to comport with the majority of the information that is available here.

It's actually fascinating, to me. I even surprise myself with how much I want to buy into it all. I have read stuff on here, gotten excited, went to go tell my wife then realized that she doesn't care (she is a Gator) and that if she asked me "where did you hear that?" and I say "volnation" she just laughs at me. lol

Never underestimate the power of hope. Many of us want to believe that UT can secure the services of a coach that will come in and WIN. Believing is easy when you want to believe!

We will see how it all pans out in the end. This season has been miserable. There has been little to get excited about other than the chance we could land a big-time coach and start reversing our slide into irrelevance.

Did I miss the part where Lance Thompson was this valuable all-fired DC that would have nailed it--isn't he fetching coffee for Saban at Bammer again?

Coudn't have been worse than Sal....and those players were recruited for 4-3, not 3-4.....probably not 9-3 though but definitely in a bowl game.

Very good point. It could also be that UT is now looking at the price tag and getting cold feet with a coach who could bring the hype but is still an unknown quantity at the college head coach level. The landscape is littered with the corpses of coaches who could bring the hype but never could translate that onto the field.

I could understand either position. It is actually better for us if the UT side is getting cold feet. It means there are other "big fish" available.

There is a lot of truth in what everyone is saying...skeptics and knowledgable people alike.

There are definitely some snags, but from the perspective I'm getting my info from, there is a lot of powerful arm twisting going on...and because of that (along with what happened last time around) I stand confidently hopeful that this is still going to go down with Gruden.

Definitely not done and definitely not dead.

I have a hard time believing any dates because there's no way to predict the bumps and roadblocks.

Gruden wants this job...without question.

Sometimes its better to stick with what you have. Lance would've kept the same philosophy where as sal implemented a new complicated system. Bama took him back with open arms.

100% chance Gruden does NOT come to Tennessee.

I got an infraction for being a bad boy yesterday so I'll just

You are a solid dude, daj. I've fallen into the same trap when my business sensibilities should be telling me otherwise.

Do you think this gets done with Gruden or is he going to string us along and leave us standing at the altar?

That sounds like a much more plausible scenario than the "done deal" rumor that some of the "insiders" have been circulating.

Hope is the one thing I have in spades, and I don't mean to try to snatch that away from anyone else.

I just have an intellectual side that right now is bludgeoning the emotional side (hope).

Or that Hart is trying to stretch his weenie out to show he has some clout. I hope it is not his ego but wouldn't be surprised.

Jake, you are another dude with a solid, level headed approach to this. I cannot for the life of me understand how UT doesn't get this done if the Big $$$ boosters, the greatest Vol of all time and Gruden all want it to get done. That would only leave two administrators as the "snags."

Absolutely! If I am a highly thought of mercenary of a coach, I state my terms and you play ball or go home. If I supposedly love a program, I bend over backwards to make the hire happen. I don't bend the school in question over the proverbial barrel.

If JG wants this job and the snags are on his end, I hope he is willing to bend a little. Compromise isn't a bad thing.
