If JG wants this job and the snags are on his end, I hope he is willing to bend a little. Compromise isn't a bad thing.

If you manage a company and you have experience to actually execute the vision...but an egotistical power from above is constantly looking over your shoulder...and you have other lucrative job offers...

Would you take the job anyway, try to hang in there til something gives, or bolt to another well developed and less egotisctical situation?

Ask yourself that question

Didn't Hart kinda make us think that your 3rd point was being addressed?
The other two are the "snags" that had crossed my mind as well.

I don't really know exactly what Hart has done or not done...

...only that all the windows are still
Open with a lot of bull**** going on.

Here's my advice to Hart:

If you hire Gruden and things don't work out, no one will blame you because they would have done the same.

If you don't hire Gruden, everyone will blame you.

It is what the Vol nation wants, by a landslide. Go for it and then if we were wrong, then at least you tried to please the fans. I can't see how it can go bad for the university since he will bring in lots of money. I think the fans will be more patient with him then they would with just anyone, too.

The three snags (which have all been through the rumor mill already many times)

-assistant coach hiring/firing control (lots of inner variable and extremely complex)

-the years in question on the deal for Gruden. He wants long term and UTAD says too many

-academic enrollment standards to be lowered to level playing field with the rest of the SEC

all of which make total sense to me.

Thanks. :hi:These are things that have to be done in order for us to regain our place. If the powers that be don't have the sack to do this, we are screwed. Gruden could fail, but hell I'd rather go down swinging than just standing there with our bat on our shoulder.

That's the one thing I liked about Kiffin. He had swagger.

UT needs to get its swagger back and I think Gruden would do it.

If we take Jimbo, I assume FSU's #1 pick is Mark Richt. Whether he leaves or not is a different story but the SEC could get real muddy real fast.

Kiffin is a an insecure flake. Gruden has swagger. Richt ain't going anywhere.

Yeah, but if both parties want it, they find a way to make it happen. My concern is that maybe Hart and Cheek aren't truly all-in on this.

We are speculating on speculation at this point.

All of that is a possibility. I just think that all parties can be totally in and reach a point where it is impossible for the deal to go through. That doesn't mean that all parties don't want it, it just means it can't happen.

Let's say JG is going to be the highest paid head coach in the college ranks (which would put him pretty high on the NFL list, I am sure). Is it more unreasonable that UT decides to stand firm on some administration or hierarchy demands? I mean they could say listen, we are already paying you more than any coach in the history of college football and you have no wins or losses, surely you can understand that we need X. If you need X, maybe you can just take a little less money and everyone is happy.

But is what he is asking for something that UT can (or should) realistically provide?

For instance, if Gruden was insisting on Chad Morris being the OC (which I don't think he is/was), knowing that Morris had such a high buyout from Clemson, IYO, should UT have agreed to pay that buyout, even if it would be a "reaslistic" option?

I'm all-in on Gruden, but not at all costs.

EDIT: I think you may have answered my question while I was posting it.

I don't know for sure if exact coaches are in question more than the principal of allowing Gruden to make the appropriate hires as needed. That's my opinion

Hart was at Bama during Saban hire and saw boosters come in and intimidate the AD into not hiring Rich Rod. Now, did that leave an impression on him that he would never let that happen to him so he really is being difficult? It would actually seem that after seeing what it has meant to Bama football to spend the money to get the right guy he would not get in the way at all. I still don't buy that Hart is blocking anything.

Good post. Makes sense from a "common" perspective.

I spoke to a friend of mine yesterday who said that UT's admissions criteria (for a football player) are higher than Vanderbilts right now. Is this true? If so, our standards are unreasonable if we wish to be competitive in the SEC.

I'm pretty sure Hart was not at BAMA during the Saban hiring.

Not changing my story only the date, according to a conversation I had this morning with the person giving me info it could be Friday before an announcement but there is still a chance it comes tomorrow. Gruden will be our coach it is a matter of when not if. Get ready folks, i can't wait for recruiting to get rolling.

If this "control" thing is a snag why should it be? I wonder how much control was given to Spurrier at USCe, or Saban at UA? It's either a smokescreen to buy some time for Hart to interview before an announcement or the administration is once again shown to be inept. I am still feeling Gruden today! Gruden now!

I take it 100% done deal meant MOU. Snags came up working through post MOU details.

No, I'm referring to the insiders/OG's stating that the deal was "100% done". Heck, at least one of them bet a lifetime ban on the deal being done. "Done" means he is UT's next coach. "Done deal" is absolute and leaves no room for snags; otherwise, they would have said, "things look promising" or, "it's close to done". I'm not flaming; I would love to hear from those with sources for an explanation.

Yea intimidating him into hiring the best coach in CFB. I think the lesson should have been let the boosters work their magic and I'll take the credit.

Who is this guy?

‏Matt Johnson @ThreefortheWin 18h It sounds more and more likely that Jon Gruden will be the HC of the #Tennessee #Vols These are just sources, but they are building

Hubbs is the biggest bulls*** artist. He even sucks at recruiting news. By the time he announces a new commit, the whole world already knew.... he has a lot of nut-hangers though... VQ is a funny site.

This isn't true at all.. He releases info as soon as the recruit wants him to, and doesn't release speculative bs as fact.. Maybe that's why u don't like him.

Oh I agree with you 100%. I think they may have interpreted a signed MOU as a "100% done deal".
