Yesterday this place was rumor central. Today things have seemed to slack off with the exception of the crazy rumor on Singletary. This is either the quiet before the storm. Or the news outlets were told to quit with the ridiculous rumors. That we have our man and they will let stuff leak as they want it to leak. I have the feeling that we have someone set. I am not set that its Gruden. Although I think they have something worked out.

I'm just thinking, What name would rejuvenate the fan base? What name would put over 70,000 fans for the O&W game? What name would bring season tickets back up to possible record sales? What name can sale out the first 2 games for 2013 against Austin Peay and Western Kentucky? What name would put money back in to UT's pocket? This name alone would generate so much that I don't understand how UT can not get this worked out with JG..... JON FREEKING GRUDEN

Surely to goodness Dave Hart knows this is his one and only opportunity to completely distance himself from the failures of Mike Hamilton.

how do you know this, did he say it on air? Or is there a blinking header that states this? Not trying to be rude, but just curious...This whole week has been insanely busy for TSR and every Tennessee Sports station. I mean Volnation has doubled its average viewer over the last 10 days, that is what happens when a coaching search happens...

I see where you are coming from, but, i think we as a fan base have made too much of JG's comments about UT. At the end of the day this is about his professional career and he strikes me as a guy that doesn't like to blur the lines.

I am all in til its all out but to think that he has a soft spot so big that he won't get absolutely everything he can out of it is a bit short sighted.

This isn't about the university - its big business.

What Skeeter is saying is not what I have heard.

I heard from someone I am learning to trust on here actually, stated that the control or money aren't the issues. It's due diligence and personal/work related.

IMO, if this gets stretched out into December...then I'm going to wonder if his integrity towards MNF is in fact causing these bumps.

The hold up is probably about the language of the contract. I'm sure UT wants to protect themselves if Gruden decides he hates college and wants to take an NFL job, probably a big buyout. Gruden obviously will want the freedom to move on if he so chooses without extreme penalty. Here's the thing he doesn't HAVE to take a job, he will make 4.5 million sitting in a booth calling games. UT has very little leverage in these negotiations. I doubt he will lose sleep if he passes on the UT job so if UT truly wants him, they better make it worth his while. They don't have to cave to all his demands, but he has to have some motivation.

If I'm Dave Hart I give Gruden everything he wants in terms of salary, staff, and control (still not sure what that means though). I come up with a reasonable and negotiable buyout if he decides he wants to move on. If Gruden truly wants the job he will accept something like that, but if he's going to be crazy greedy then there's no point pursuing him further.

Even NFL coaches do not have full control. They have GMs for bosses.

Hart has already said that hiring and firing of assistants is up to the coach, and he'll help them where they ask.

I think people forget that Hart is over ALL athletics, not just football. He really doesn't exercise a ton of "control" over football's day to day activities. That's why you pay millions for coaches to do it and do it right.

I'm not buying the control issues either, unless Gruden wants to handle the budget or something. However, a coach doesn't set that in the NFL, and even for an ego like Gruden, I think think he'd want that burden. GMs in the NFL have to sign off on assistant contract negotion salaries too. All of this power that people are saying that he wants is not available in any coaching position in any sport anywhere.

This seems like a reasonable stance to me. I don't buy the control stuff.

This "we don't want Gruden because he is an egomaniac" is a load of BS. Saban is as big of an egomaniac as anyone in coaching and Bama is on there way to another BCSNCG

Refer to his twitter posts. While you are there review his tweets since Thanksgiving. I think you will notice a change in his pattern and subject matter compared to previous posts. Or, it could just be that he likes the Christmas Vacation movie so much that he feels the need to become Clark. Just sayin.

No, if he has no intention of coaching at UT he would already made that plain. He can have any open job in the NFL without any college help. He told Arkansas NO pretty much instantly.

All signs point to UT being in play, don't be silly.
