I dont know what to believe but if the agents remarks are true wouldnt ESPN be rubbing it in all over ESPN I went to the site and all that is on there is about our search not foccussed on Gruden article seems wierd.

There's only a handful of hires that will save him from the ridicule that is sure to follow.

Except . . . he won't face any ridicule from the Knoxville "media" and we are too irrelevant now for some national reporter to go digging.

So we have had a job opening for two weeks now and we haven't heard ANY other candidates name mentioned in the sense of a serious interview or discussions taking place . . .

And everybody was up in arms when ANY OTHER name was mentioned while this circus was going on. Nobody wanted conversation about any other coach except Gruden. Now that Gruden's blown UT off, Hart is either guilty of not making the Gruden hire or sitting on his *** for 2 weeks.

I don't believe for a minute that you can lay all this on UT nor do I think Hart got up this a.m. and decided it was time to begin his search.

You are crazy if you think Hart isn't to blame. I don't believe the story but even if it was true Hart should have found out Gruden wasn't interested weeks ago and let that leak out. This would have been best for the university and the new coach.

The agent's statement was simply damage control for Gruden. What makes Gruden look better: 1) We wanted more money than UT was willing to or could come up with, or 2) UT sucks and it was a fantasy that Lord Jon would ever consider coaching there?

My guess is they were getting info from people that have proven to be reliable in the past. Things just went south at the last minute. Hargis seems very credible. Got to think it may have been the money or Gruden bailing out in the end like he did with Miami and Notre Dame.

x1,000. Amazing how many people still don't understand how this process works--it raises lying to an art form. You have to parse every statement and can't take anything at face value. "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" (assuming oral sex isn't sexual relations of course). I am NOT saying Gruden is still coming. But it wouldn't surprise me. Negotiations and contacts are handled through third parties until the very end, precisely so the AD's and agents can claim truthfully (technically) that they haven't spoken to so and so, or haven't "offered" anyone else the job until they got their man. Note that LaMonte didn't say he hadn't talked to ANYONE about the UT job--just that he hadn't talked to Hart. Either this thing has fallen through (I think this is the most likely explanation), or they have upped the ante on buying more time for an announcement in an almost nuclear fashion, but we won't know for sure until someone else is announced.

People in the AD need to be fired over this. Regardless of the coach, this whole thing has been ridiculous.
