Official Jon Gruden Thread XIII

The only thing about this whole deal that really gripes me, is the local media just acting like "I told you so". If they are really local and care about this university and fan base, they should not be gleefully excited because we are crushed.

I agree, and I can't wait for a coach to be hired so I can unfollow Rucker on Twitter.

I'm done trying to guess.

The whole AD civil war makes no sense. Haslam could just pick up the phone and have Dave Hart escorted out of his office.

Just let it play out. With any luck we might see a gang war between the Chattanooga and the Knoxville media.

Da** Lex bringing it today :hi: :eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol:

Hello all, first time poster, long time lurker. Still firmly pro-Gruden and here's my $.02 as to why it (JG to UT) AIN'T over:

Take LaMonte for what he's worth–a slimy sports agent with everything to gain and nothing to lose by saying what he did. As others have alluded to in their posts, this is a negotiation between two parties who have done this before; lying is an art and it's all about leverage. Look at what Les Miles just did to Ark. as an example! AGENTS SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED WITH PUBLIC COMMENTS.

Similarly, ESPN simply cannot be trusted on this matter either. As a longtime Deadspin reader I am, like most of you are, aware of the way that the network is run. Best interests always supersede editorial validity (they just mandated that Sports by Brooks not be credited on air for breaking a story that SBB did indeed break). ESPN is looking out for itself, and has probably informed Gruden that whatever the decision is, they want it first. This is likely why they have been quick to sensationalize Gruden's comments on M&M and why they're pushing Low (whose sources are Knox/AD based) out front on this. They want the story first! The longer everyone believes them now, the higher their traffic counts will be should Gruden decide to make the leap. I'm not saying that ESPN is universally wrong, but that they have shown themselves to be FAR from honest brokers.

Thus far, I have seen NO evidence that Gruden is out of the conversation. It is clear that the Chatty sources are boosters and Knox sources are AD, who have a vested interest in feeding the Knoxville media what they want them to know. If we accept the long held wisdom of the OGs that the $$$ makes the final decision, then Gruden to our beloved alma mater is not dead yet.

Keep the faith, Gruden is still a real possibility–just not by today at (now passed) 3 PM.:peace2:

Is it true that LaMonte is the agent of all those administrators and coaches in the Browns organization?

I was told to expect lots of misinformation, weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth, I had no idea it would be at this level. I really believe (no source) that there is a battle for the soul of UT's leadership and not just the AD. What you ask is possible, but after all this, I'm not quite sure what to think.

Sounds a lot like the Book of Revelations, with the weeping and gnashing of teeth kind of stuff.

No ones been hired. Gruden hasn't said NO himself. Hart hasn't said it's not Gruden. Until one of those there things happen, Gruden is a viable option, regardless of what his agent says. Look, this guy just EMBARRASSED a very proud fan base. We've seen some dark times, and don't deserve the position we're in. Hart should at least have the balls to say Gruden's out, and we're looking at Coaches A & B. But instead, we are the laughing stock of college football. The University should have debunked the Gruden rumor from the beginning, cause now it's Gruden or bust, and NOBODY will be good enough to coach us after this.

Gruden did say no himself on mike and mike, followed with he like's his job and want's to keep it!! which led to everyone on here saying his no meant yes, and it was all smokescreen

I'll only say this, the OG's said it would look bleak and hart would save it in the last hour. That may not be anywhere close to truth in the end BUT, if Lamonte is the maverick they say and IF the pressure formthe leaks was causing too much pressure to quickly they just got what they wanted to work it behind the scenes. It would be the COUP OF THE SPORTS WORLD!! But if Hart has truly done no work on talking to gruden until now and has did not come out to difuse the snowball of euphoria in BIG ORANGE COUNTRY then he dropped the ball and was a horrible PR move that would and should get him fired. I don't believe that if we went to the mat and tried all we can and came up short fine, but even then Hart not saying anything except running something through Hubbs that was bushleague. In the end I am stepping back hoping for a miracle, I was determined to be ALL IN until it wasn't but will gladly rlent and say the fooled me in the end with everybody else!! IF IT"S DOABLE DO IT, if it's not Hart you best get a great one and be able to explain ALOT!! :hi:

If it turns out this is over and Gruden doesn't come to TN. I hope the mods do alot of house cleaning on the "100% its a done deal trolls" this is garbage.

I find the silence from the AD's office a bit puzzling. lamonte just basically implied that Hart was in "Fantasy land" for even calling him about Gruden. If I'm Hart, I take exception to that and issue a press release clearing it all up and defending the UT football program and why the HFC position is attractive.

Unless you've already hired someone else. :whistling:

Like I said, if there was any misinformation/lack of information in this situation, I assure you it wasn't from OV. If I had a relationship for as long as OV has had with these individuals, I, too, would be inclined to take them at their word.

Certainly wasn't questioning OV with that post just stating my mother in law would certainly not know my plans but you can bet your ass she would say she did

Regardless of the outcome of this search, Hart has handled this coaching search terribley.

I don't know if we can say that. Yes, he probably should have been upfront with the public about Gruden, but to his defense he never has said a word. He let us think for ourselves, he let us decide what we thought. IMO we will have a coach by Monday or Tuesday and this will all be over...Do not hate Hart until we know what is going on, for all we know the media is just being stupid and the situation is misconstrued...

Gosh...everybody bolted, no one announced anything official yet. It's seems so empty in this room now with all the party trash laying on the floor. Like the day after a huge party.

I'm gonna start picking up empty cups and stacking them up. I need some for the house anyway.

But I'm staking a claim on my seat until an official announcement tells me to go home.

Hell with that. I just mixed my second Bloody Bull.
