Thanks Liper. That's what I was thinking too and that's why it didn't make sense. Do you think there is still a chance or do you think it is over?
What are you talking about? Hart was basically on his way to meet with Gruden and Gruden said no thanks.
Knoxville News Sentinel said:I dont know Dave Hart, LaMonte said. Id never met him or talked to him. (Today) was the only time I talked to anyone from Tennessee.
A source close to the Tennessee search who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media told the News Sentinel that Tennessee reached out to Gruden directly last week, but Gruden ultimately declined to pursue the job. The source supported LaMontes stance that no negotiations took place.
LaMonte said Harts call today was apparently a formality.
He said, I just wanted to do due diligence, LaMonte said. I said, Thank you, but Jon has made it clear hes committed to ESPN.' He thanked me and said goodbye.
Based on what I personally know, I think it is over. It still seems to me that "something happened." Others have hinted to things but I haven't heard a concrete answer as to what that was. Could be internal, but I also allow for the possibility that he just decided not to some. I'm leaning, however, toward the first one.
I'm still standing behind my theory that its Gruden and has been the whole time, planned for a future reveal. IMO Hargis got too close to the story and since he isn't directly controlled by the Knoxville army of information, he couldn't be shut down on pushing his story, the AD got wind of this breaking too early, and have been in spin/shutdown mode ever since.
You don't go as far as Gruden did in regards to assistant staff if you're not pulling the trigger. I remain convinced its happening and the Hargis story was a combination of fact and last-minute spin by the AD to make it look like it may not happen to keep this from officially breaking for awhile
