What are you talking about? Hart was basically on his way to meet with Gruden and Gruden said no thanks.

If true and I'm not saying it is. Could it of been bc Lamonte was left outta the loop and when Gruden and a few big wigs met and agreed, Lamonte disagreed and thought he could get more outta UT? Then asked Gruden to let him handle it and do things the way they are suppose to be done.

I don't know what to think. LaMonte could just be deflecting for Gruden. I don't believe the first time he heard from UT was this week for a second.

I think that that is unfathomable. There wouldn't be this much smoke over the last three weeks that the Knoxville media is forced to cover it if they never even spoke.

LaMonte seems sleezy after that article to me.

Based on what I personally know, I think it is over. It still seems to me that "something happened." Others have hinted to things but I haven't heard a concrete answer as to what that was. Could be internal, but I also allow for the possibility that he just decided not to some. I'm leaning, however, toward the first one.

Well, I guess it's time to move on. I just don't want us to "settle" for a mediocre coach. The SEC is a tough conference and it's getting tougher....tougher to recruit, tougher to play in, tougher to be a contender. We need someone who can recruit like crazy and make us a contender again. I just don't know who that would be. There are great coaches out there but they are all happy with their jobs. Would be pretty hard or almost impossible to get them to come to Tennessee. We definitely have a rough road ahead of us.

There is a theory going around that the non-Knoxville press was getting too close and hart/Gruden shut them down.

I want to know why Gruden wouldn't be announced as soon as things were signed and sealed? Why the secrecy?

There is no secret. He doesn't want to coach in college.

I have a question. If Gruden is really a jerk only interested in control, power and money, as he is being painted. Why did he politely turn down Arkansas instead of getting the Vols and Hogs into a bidding war? That's what would make sense. Who knows what they would have offered him. There are a lot of things that don't add up!!

IMO, as long as who he hires beats Oregon next year, he's in the clear. If they lose to Oregon and Florida, he's in big trouble.

even Gruden would lose to Florida and Orgeon next year....no coach can win without good talent and we don't have much talent unfortunately

Cause he has a job and he's not available to accept another one right now?

I've listened to a lot of theories but none of them make sense.
Don't believe we'll ever know which is the most frustrating part. For UT fans, this is going to be akin to the JFK assassination for conspiracy theorists.

In all fairness and respect to Bcarter, who sounds like a good dude, this is not the way things went down at all. I think he may be pissed bc he feels misled by some boosters, but all the information one needs to know this was a legitimate chance is out there for public consumption.

Heck, the TFP article discussed staff members who were planning to come with him, and fully believed the deal would be done. Rucker reported he called Bisaccia to be his ST coordinator at TN. Hubbs and Hyams both reported similar things. Gruden would not have gotten his whole package together had they not been well down the road. This is not the behavior of a casual conversation about hypothetically being interested in a job.

That TN and Gruden were close to getting this done is not an opinion or message board rumor mongering. If you'll recall, about a week ago Hyams and Mr SEC both reported that TN and Gruden were very close but that is when the "snag" stuff started and then Hyams went back to "less than 5%."

Anyway it doesn't matter now -- I don't think -- but just wanted to put this back out there so you guys don't feel like you were taken down a road by rumors. This was very very real.

WAY.... TOO REAL......now what/who?

It's no wonder we are the laughing stock of the college football world.

Nah dude. All fans think this way. Everybody wants to win and everybody thinks their team is going to get the best coach.

The difference is our AD figures out a way to publicly expose our fanbase and make them look like idiots. Fact.

Find a quote where he politely turned down the Arkansas job???

You will find less of a response from gruden or his agent about their job their ours.

You know, the OG's said in the beginning (it's all forgotten now) that the big Gruden announcement timeline plan was for Dooley to win out so we'd go to a bowl, and we lost to Vanderbilt.

Yup. I think you and I share similar ideas as to what's happening. I may be a tad more convinced it is definitely going to be Gruden but I think we're pretty close to being at the same spot for what all is going on with how this has played out
